We had 24 boats show up for our 11th annual wixom lake open.
We paid 5 places.
1st place was $1500.
Just off of memory, i believe there were 20 - 6 fish limits, and 1 team brought in 5.  I would assume the other teams just let there fish go.  The fish were on a feed bag all day.
These weight may not be exact, I recorded them all, but don't have it sitting in front of me.
I know they are close.

Ist place had 16.6#
2nd 15.68
3rd  14.8
4th  14.28
5th  14.12

and then a whole bunch of bags between 11 and 13.5#.
Big bass for the day was a chunk of a largemouth weighing 4.95#

now for my story.  We started on a point where there were Largemouth loaded in the weeds
a week ago, and we caught 2 on a pop-r and one on a tube in the first 2 hours,
one was a 3# fish the others we would cull later.
after 2 hours it was obvious that the weeds had been sprayed and were not
in the same condition they had been in the week before.  and the fish were not there
either.  On to spot two.
pulled up to this point and fished our way around it.  Brian hooked a fish and said it was a good one, i dropped my rod that i was realing in, and grabbed the net about the
same time he said it's a huge rockbass. so i put the net back down and grab my rod
which now had tension on it and set the hook into a 21" plus smallie with about 6' of line out.
well after a nerve racking 10 second battle she was in the net.  The only thing we can
figure is she followed the rock bass up out of the deep and saw my tube hanging under
the boat and ate it.
we fished a weed flat for an hour and got 2 more largemouth to finish off our limit, then
went point hopping and ended up catching 2 more nice smallies. one 4# and one 3.5#.
normally things don't come this easy, but we new we had a great bag going and it was
only noon.  so we went to work upgrading the two mediocre LM we had in there and
we ended up upgrading those fish probably 5 or 6 times.
The long smallie only weight 4.08 pounds, and the second one I caught might have actually weighed more, it was shorter but fatter.  but it didn't matter cause we knew it wasn't 5#.
Our bag was the big bag for the day 16.6# and we were the winners.  The only
difference between our bag and the others was we lucked into some big smallies, our 6 biggest largemouth would have been 13-13.5#.

Sanford open is July 21 and it'll take a lot more than 3 big smallies to win that one!.
