Looking forward to this part of the board starting to fill up... we're almost there.  I'm jealous of you guys and gals who are already out on the water.  Can't wait for the first CIR reports to start coming in.  ;D

I'll be leaving for Arkansas in 2 hrs., boat attached, to stay on Lake Catherine for 10 days.  A few miles South of Lake Ouachita and Lake Hamilton, so I'll be doing a lot of fishing for you guys to say the least.  Hopefully I can catch one of those over 10 hawgs to put in my Bassmaster magazine!! ;D ;D ;D

You guys that aren't fishing are missing out by not going out and getting some of these walleyes out of the Detroit and SCR.  It is good practice for jigging and it has given me a chance to test out some of my equipment..Boat, GPS, Different lines etc.
One thing that I have found out is I am very impressed with the Knot strength of BPS flourocarbon.  I am fishing 10lb fireline with an 8lb flouro leader. It has held up very well.  I think I am going to downsize next week to smaller line.  Helps with staying vertical in the river.

Well, my boat is supposed to be ready to pick up from the shop tomorrow (Sat).  I just may get out into the river this coming week.  I'm not very experienced with where to find walleye in the river though.  Not sure where to go.

Thanks tournament ready...
I don't want to thread jump, but it looks like BPS and Seagar were the best performers..
Back to the thread...Get out and fish..Steelhead, Walleyes..There is alot of great fishing going on right now.
I know it is called bass fishing reports, but this is a great time to be on the water.
Even if it is snowing.

Just look for the hoard of boats. Thats all we've ever done when we went out. Find the group of boats, and you will most likely find the fish.

Alot of good spots are on the Detroit River hotspots maps also..You are absolutely right about the boats.  They also make a good indicator of wether or not the fish are biting in that area.  If you don't see very many nets come out in an hour or so go hit your next spot.
If you are jigging also look for clear water.
I am hoping to stock up on some filets for a fish fry over the summer.

Good idea, REVTRO will do...

MOTO,

Just curious, what knot do you use going from Braid to Flouro?

In the river Jigging I use a small high quality swivel. I use all palomer knots on the Floro leaders and use a Trilene Knot for the Braid.  When you get snagged up down there it is a pretty good indicator of how tough your knots and line are.  The Floro held up great with the sharp walleye teeth and the snags. I just retied often.  Most of the time I would straighten out the Jig Hook before my line would fail.  Usually I use my trolling motor and run back up river when I get snagged, and the jig usually frees itself.  I was having a little bit of boat issues so I couldn't do that.
I usually use a blood knot if I am fusing two lines of close to the same Diameter.
It is a simple knot and It goes through the guides pretty well.  I have been trying some new knots over the winter, but I am going to have to try them out in practice before I get confidence in them.
