One on One National Champion – Dave Green
The first ever NBAA One on One National Championship was held last weekend at Gun Lake in western Michigan. This was a fantastic event with over 50 competitors coming out to fish in this first ever National Championship.

The morning started out with some of the thickest fog ever seen in these parts. This did not delay the start of the tournament but it was "slow no-wake" only for the take off and until it was safe to run. After an hour or so the sun burned the fog off and it turned out to be a great day for fishing.

Over 30 anglers brought fish to the scales and the angler named Dave Green topped them all. Dave's limit of largemouth weighed in at 11.93 lbs narrowly beating out second place finisher Don Watts by just over a quarter of a pound. Dave's first place finish was worth $1000 in cash and a new Minn Kota trolling motor, Humminbird graph, Fish Hedz Mask, Powell rod, Bass Pro Shops gift card, Aqua-Vu camera, and a Minn Kota battery. In total Dave took home close to $2000 dollars in cash and prizes.

Second place finisher Don Watts brought in 11.61 lbs to the scale and cashed a nice check for $600. Third place and big bass honors went to Doug Tucker with a limit weighing in at 10.77 lbs and Doug's big bass went 4.01 lbs and in total Doug took home $750 in cash. Peter John Smith was the lucky angler who grabbed second place big bass honors with a nice largemouth that went 3.79 lbs and was worth a $180. Along with cash the top finishers also received McDonald's gift card from the local Gun Lake McDonalds and a package of jig heads donated by Marty.

We'd like to thank all of our sponsors that participated in this event including Skeeter Boats, Yamaha Motors, Minn Kota, Humminbird, Aqua-Vu, Auto Value, Gamma Line, Fish Hedz, Powell Rods, Bass Pro Shops, Scent-Lok, Stopper Lures, Eagle Claw, Mann's Bait Company, WaveCast and more. Also, we'd like to give a special thanks to Leaders Marine, Mariner Enterprises, John Gustin and the Skeeter pro-staff for coming out and giving demo rides in their new Skeeter boats.

I think this circuit will literally explode next year!  There's just something about bragging rights and testosterone for all of us (said with a Tim Allen man grunt) ...

what a great event.  i had put a couple waypoints in my GPS and they came in handy in the fog to find my starting spot.  that lake sure has a lot of shallow spots and a ton of big rock bass.  i got to weigh i a few keepers. but the highlight of my day was seeing my brother get 2nd big bass and a nice check.  he has the family bragging rights for this year.   i will be there next year for sure.    the classic on St-Clair would be fun..
