I was just on there website and it says they are having a grand opening in Allen Park, MI in November of 2007.  Has anyone else heard this or know any details?  I have never been to a Sportsman Warehouse but all the good ol boys down south seem to love it.

I dont know if I qualify as "dem boyz down south" but I am not a fan.  They never seem to have anything I need.  They seem to be the last to get the new stuff.  Now this could be just my local store, but  they are always out of everything including BPS branded stuff.

Having a store in allen park doesnt really seem like it would increase business that much for them. They already have a full blown BPS in the detroit area.

I will take this moment to remind everyone that I am "anti-big box store"  So take my comments with a grain of salt.

I agree JCooper..... Just what we need, another big box store.....  >:(

Never heard of this store.  Are they a chain?  Owned by one of the other big chains?

And what do you guys consider "big box?"
Addicted to fishing.  All the time, any species, anywhere!!  Especially in West Michigan!!!

Sportsman Warehouse is a BPS with out all the glamour.  No food, smaller aquairium, no barbershop etc etc.

The store that is opening is 2 miles if that from my house... my brother was involved in the concrete placement of that store as well as many other that were opening in that "plaza."

Word has it, that they are trying to tap into this market and with the competition already fierce with BPS and Cabela's they are supposed to have a sweet store...

Now I don't know about you, but I don't care for BPS too much because I believe they are the worst when it comes to re-stocking... I've gone there MANY time and come home empty-handed...

Cabela's has always been decent, but recently I shopped there and they were just as bad...

The problem for both of those stores is that they are 50 miles away... i'm anxious to see this new Sportsmans Warehouse because I won't have to travel too far... I could walk there is I wanted to...

There is a Gander Mountain nearby, and the selection there is pathetic at best...

I hope Sportsman's Warehouse hits a homerun up here...

Jose, I know what you mean about coming home empty handed.  That happens to me more times than not.  But I have to believe it has more to do with the individual store management (stock mgmt. specifically) than it does with BPS as a chain.  One thing that mystifies me is when they have a sale.  If you're gonna have a sale, stock enough to handle the anticipated demand rather than run out of stock the first day.  Some will say that they can't anticipate the demand for a particular sale product, but that can't be true since they put the same products on sale each year at about the same time.  History should tell them what to expect and they should be prepared for it.  ... word to the management.

We love ya BPS, just keep things better stocked please.   ;D

If they are the same entity they have had an online presence for a long time. Not trying to get too political, but in books like Thomas Friedman's "A Brief History of the 21st Century, The World is Flat" they talk about how things are never going to be the same because of our new computer technology. It's flatten the world forcing us to have to compete in a whole new way on a global level with societies like Eastern Europe, India, and China that have never been in the mix economics wise. Because of the computer these countries are progressing at lightning speed. They are also very hungry. It boils down to are we here in the US going to be able to compete. Big Box ie. Walmart is where it's at like it or not. He does talk about capturing niches and that's what the little shops are going to really have to focus on. If they do it well, they will be able to survive. Same goes for American jobs. Friedman's book is very good. I don't sit around much reading textbook type books, but his book really is interesting and talks about the new world that the computer has brought and will be bringing. It talks about specific companies like Walmart, UPS, etc. and why they are leaders when others are not. Like I said if you are in the work force now this is a scary book, but one that can get you a leg up the new world order of business.

I hadn't heard about a Sportsman's Warehouse coming to Michigan??  Where in Allen Park is it going to be???  Is it at that newer shopping plaza near I94 and Southfield and Outer Drive.  I have been to the one in Atlanta.  I thought it was pretty good....at least the one in Atlanta.  It won't matter to me about how far it is.  I am 35 minutes from BPS in Auburn Hills and about 30 minute from Allen Park.

I have stopped at the one in St Louis many times going to Ozarks or Truman or wherever and always really liked it.  It seems to have at least as much as the Detroit store, including aquarium, etc.

I ask that location question about a week or two ago as you can see if you look a couple of blogs up.  I am going to guess that it is at that new shopping area in Allen Park at Southfield and Outer Drive.  But don't hold me to that.  I will call around November 3 and find out since that is when it seems to be the opening day.

Sportsmans Warehouse is a BPS store but a little smaller and tend to carry more closeout lures and the usual stock that BPS has.  More fishing tackle and hunting stuff and less clothes and home stuff.  I have been to the one in Atlanta.  Nice store.  Looking forward to going there.  Want to spend $$$$.
