Sun Glasses

I'm  looking to get a lighter, (weight) pair of sun glasses for fishing. I own a pair of Costa Del mars, but they are out of style. I researched into the Kaenon's, Oalkley's H2optix. They must be polarized. Can anyone give me a little insight(pun) into the best all around pair for about $100 bucks. Where is the best place to buy???

i've had various pairs of different brands of polarized glasses...oakleys, ray ban, fish eyes...but now i exclusively wear my favorite...SOLAR BAT...great durabiity and polarization..the most comfortable i've had.

I'm an Oakley fan!  I don't know what is available in Polarized for around $100 you will have to look.  I have 2 pairs of Oakley Polarized XX (20) I love them.  Light, durable and great polarization.

i would be willing to bet you can't touch a pair of Oakley polarized for $100..the pair I have went $245.

the are good glasses though, another good brand is Kaenon...tons of the pros use them, i've never owned a pair...

I went to BPS yesterday to check out the sun glasses. They must be selling drugs out there. The lot was full and  the classic isn't here. Bps doesn't carry a good selection in glasses. One pair of Solar Bats, no Kaenons, a few Oakleys no H2optix. I tried the half Jackets by Oakley but didn't like the fit. Does anyone know of another place besides Cabelas. I would like to try them on for fit and feel before I spend that kind of money. Just in case anyone wants to know, the Quicksilver Premium is $ 14.99 a gallon at BPS. I asked would the price go down for the Classic and couldn' get a yay or a nay.

D&R Sports has a good selection of high quality glasses.  In the Great Lakes Crossing mall there is a pretty good sunglasses shop right off the Food Court too.  Check out any of the Upcoming Fishing Shows, when I was at the Grand Rapids show a couple years ago I remember they had quite a few different brands floating around.  It is hard to justify spending the high dollar on something you haven't let sit on your face...

I have a pair of Revo glasses.  I got the infomation on them from my eye doctor.  I told him I wanted the best polarized glasses available.  The two names he gave me were Oakley and Revo.  I bought the glasses because I liked the fit.  The lenses are amber with a mirrored front.  I am very happy with the quality.

check out the Maui Jim's.....They are light weight and last forever...you can get a pair for about $145..

The Sun Glass Hut is one of the best places to buy Oakley's and other big brands.  I don't know about the other companies but I know Oakley makes many of the same styles in polarized and non-polarized.  You can try them on for fit and order the polarized model.  In most cases shopping for a deal will do you no good, prices are normally the same everywhere.  One tip I will share that I learned last year if you know anyone that works in an optometry store they can normally buy sun glasses at cost and save you a lot of money.  I bought my last pair of that way and saved 40% off retail.

If you are looking for the best deal, try www.campmor.com  They have a large selection of sunglasses and a large "Hot buy" section for big savings.  I just looked and they have Keanon Kore's for $70.  Several Hobies, Bolle, Costa's etc. for well under $100.

That eye correction surgery starts looking cheap when I price out perscription sunglasses and compare to what this place is charging.

I had the RK done over 5 years ago - all I can say is what took me so long to get it done - the hassle of RX sunglasses, contacs and the regular sunglasses,....its all gone.  Now, I can get 2 or 3 pairs of poalrized lenses for low light, or bright sun and its all good - I highly recommend it!

On DK's recommendation last year, I bought a pair of Costa Del Mar's.  I got the Fathom Glass and they are very comfortable and lightweight.  In fact, they are way more comfortable than the Maui Jim glass lens ones I also have.  I had a pair of the polycarb Maui's and although they are light, they scratch way to easy.  They say they are scratch resistant, but both pairs I had got scratches fairly easily.  I know you said you had older Costas.  Try the newer ones, they rock.

Jack, I totally agree. I got Lasik last year and I can't believe I didn't do it earlier.  It was the best decision I've ever made.  No more contacts and I can have multiple types of sunglasses.  it's simply amazing.

I also bought a pair of Costa Del Mars last year and they are very comfortable. They are lightweight and I can see really well with them on blue bird days.

I have a pair of Solar Bats that I wear in low light conditions and they are also light and comfortable.

Both brands are very high quality and seem very durable so far.

I have a pair of Costa del Mar Fluids I bought 3 or 4 seasons ago that are very lightweight and comfortable, although the lenses scratch pretty easily.  That pair cost just under 2 bills if memory serves me, but they do come with 3 interchangeable lenses you can use depending on the conditions (they're like 3 pairs in 1).  I've owned a few pairs of Solar Bats and they are very lightweight as well and you can easily find a good pair for under $100.  If you're a sight fisherman, check out the Moss colored lense, they are sweet.

I have spent way too much money on sunglasses in the past.  I always lose them, or break them, or lean over the egde of the boat and drop them in the drink. 

I started buying cheapos the last few years and havent really noticed any difference.  Maybe its just me.  But i get the same results with the $14.95 pair of Solar Bat Hibdon Series that i buy at Wal-Mart that i did when i had Lure EyEs, H2Optics, Costa Del Mar, or Bolle.

Just my opinion.  I want to buy a new pair of Bats this season.  i was looking at the $66 pair.  I dont know if i will pay the money for them or not.

Do you guys really think it makes a difference to buy the more expensive glasses versus the cheaper ones?  I suppose if i had a good pair and a cheap pair at the same time, i could see a difference, but i have never really compared.  Help me out.

I don't know if I've seen as much a difference in quality as in hue.  When I got the Vermillion lenses, the stained water got much easier to see through.  However, there is a huge difference between glass and the cheap plastic $12 glasses that use a multi-layer film.  But I haven't seen much difference between polycarb and glass other than the scratch resistance. 

Oh yeah, get a lanyard, then you won't lose them over the side of the boat.  DOH!  I always have a lanyard on when I'm on the water.

Well, I did the unthinkable for me. I bought a pair of polar Oakleys today. So much for all the new LC lures I wanted to try out this season. I have always bought the cheaper glasses $15-40. I will see if I notice the difference this year, if I don't mess them up one way or another.

Chase5004, which Oakleys did you purchase? I've been looking at Kaenons and Smiths. The Oakleys are real expensive. REI outdoor outfiiters sells a few pair but I think Cabelas (online) carries the most brands.  I'm going to the mall and look for that sun glass hut place

Sorry about the slow response I haven't been on the computer for a couple of days. I ended up going with the Oakley Half Jacket. I got the black frame with the Gold Iridium lens. Out the door with a cleaning rag $175.  What's nice about the ones I got is that the lenses can be changed out or replaced. The woman working the counter indicated that replacement lenses could be purchased for around $80.

I found them at the Sun Glass Hut in the Genesee Valley Mall in Flint. I thought that that Sun Glass Hut had a better selection then the one at Great Lake Crossing. When Shopping around I checked BPS, Sun Glass Hut, Gander Mountain, and I did a little bit of research over the net.
