For the classic on Houghton lake, is there an off -limits for the water? Just wondering for planning purposes.
Your either getting better or worse you never just stay the same

in years past, there have been no off-limits before the tournament starts.  during the 3 days of the tournament, if you are not fishing one of the days, you cannot launch out of the host boat launch, and you cannot begin fishing that day until 8am, but after that, you can pre-fish that day too, derrek

Got Fish??

I would like to see an off limit of fishing 24hrs prior to the classic, on the lake. Having that much pressure is not good. I also think letting other divisoins prefish the same day of a division classic is unfare. Not only are you fishing aganst the anglers in your division, but you have to compete with hundreds of other anglers. That are not in your division. Please do not let this turn into a MAYLAY!

I agree with you Got Fish, plus I would like to see a lie detector-test option thrown in, in case of a protest .

Its hard to have an off limits to other days, during competition.  THe last time I was up there, I fished the second day.  The first day of the other day was my only prefish day.  If there was an off limits the day before and then the first day of, most people wouldnt even get a day of practice.  Spring is a very busy time for me, business wise, and days off are impossible to come by.

Got Fish??

I understand that we all have other things going on our daily lives, But this is the classic. I think that the reason that we are all here, is because of the competitiveness and the knowledge we used in all those division tournaments we fished. I still think if you need to prefish for the classic, Maybe you should'nt be there

Take the week off. Fish as much as possible. Forget all the other stuff and have fun.

Good Luck in the spring.

Prefishing should be off limits during compition. How would you feel if someone was prefishing your honey hole while you were competing?

Flippin222

They should have a pretty little ribbon on their trolling motor if fishing the tournament that day.

If they don't, I would approach them and ask if they were fishing the tournament that day just to confirm. Then you ask "politely" if they would mind letting you have the spot. Tell them they are more than welcome to watch you fish it today and you would be more than happy to race them to it the next day (winner takes it).

I am sure it would work out perfectly. Afterall, we are all gentlemen. Right?

I don't like the practice days on the same day as a tournament is going on any more than any of you.  But, everyone is allowed practice days.  It does hurt when you are heading towards that big cow on the bed you spotted 2 days ago, and a practice boat pulls up in front of you and BANG....there goes that fish.

macbass

maybe they should put it off limits the sunday before the classic and let the chips fall where they may. But then the guys that fish the first day are a day up if they are fishing the next 2 days. But they are tournament fishing they are not practicing. but hen again if they would have it at saginaw bay or lake st clair that would eliminate all the problems because of all the water. you could probably practice the same days as the other tournaments and not see another boat. But I am not involved so this is just an opinion.

That is the good and the bad with the local classic tournaments. Maybe make it a 3 day tournament with a 2 day cut, put it in NE Missouri or someother area not regularly fished, make the lake off limits 30 days prior, and practice days Mon thru Wed.
