Shimano Spinning Reels

I am looking into trying out shimano spinning reels but I only can spend around the $60 range. I've used their baitcast reels with out a single flaw but don't know much about their spinning reels. Anyone have any input on if the lower priced reels, are they worth the money and if so what type and size reel would you recommend?

I highly recommend the Shimano Sedona.  It runs just about $60.  These used to cost $46 to $48.  I didn't have any problems but decided to move a step up to a little more expensive Shimano.  Well while looking at reels this spring I noticed they upgraded the Sedona.  More bearings, changed the spool a little etc.  So I bought one.  Very nice.  I've been real happy with it.  You can't go wrong.

I have a couple Shimano Sahara spinning reels I have had for a few years.  I like them but I like the new Daiwa spinning reels I bought last year better.  Check out the Exceler or the Regal.

less than 10 years ago, a 50 or 60 dollar shimano reel a high quality reel, i don't see that as the case anymore. You have to drop at least a c-note on a shimano to get a good one anymore. I have some older spirexs which were pretty good, but my newer one ( a sedona or sahara can't remember) looks nice, but isn't all that hot. I don't know if they've improved the quality on the newer 08 or 09 models though

I really like pfluegar presidents - for 60$ a very solid reel with a good drag.

I spin a Sedona and a Symetre.  Both excellent reels...I like the Shimano's better than the Pfleugers as they seem lighter...but BOTH are really smooth and excellent quality.  I think a Symetre goes for about 80-100$ nowadays.  Wife picked one up for me several years ago on sale for about 80$  I thought that was a great deal at the time.  Still do...it's been a flawless workhorse.

I was thinking about the sedona but I'm not sure what size to go with. Alot of guys around here fish with the 4000 size but I'm not sure what there is for pros other then high line capasity, and little bit faster line pick up. Does the 4000 size feel over heavy and tireing to fish with or is it something you don't notice?

I have a symetre 4000, and several 2500's.  The 2500 is the right size for a lot of Bass applications.  I think the 4000 is too big, and heavy. 

Although, I used it a lot of years on my tube rod.  Its extra weight helped to balance out a cheaper rod.

Ok I think Im going to go with the 2500 size but I'll pick up both of them and see how they feel in my hand. Thanks for the info guys.

I wouldn't go with anything larger than the 2500.  I like the light weight and small size.

I went and got the 2500 Sedona. It was a good deal cuz it was on sale for $49.99. I got out on sunday and jacked a few smallies and largies with it and it performed great.

$10 bucks off regular price, good deal. Where did you pick it up??  Congrats on the fish!

I got it at a local fleet farm. They had another older(last years model i think) sedona for $40 but the packaging was open so i stayed away from it.
