Launched the boat tonight and when i turned the dept finder on it made some cracking noises then shut off.  thinking the connections might be wet from fishing in the monsoon last week i took the unit out of the bow.  It was almost full of water.  i took one of the connector nuts off and about a pint of water came out.  I was hoping it would turn on so i could get my waypoints off but it is dead now.

anyone else ever have this problem

called Lowrance and it is covered under warrenty.  just have to send it in and wait a few weeks.  going to hook up the old Garmin tomorrow and fish a little on the home pond.

Talk to Chris.  I think he has sent 3 or 4 back for the same problem.  Next time buy a 'bird ;)

I have heard of a few guys with that issue....Make sure you get an RA number and all of that when you send it in...If you hit a wall Linda Colt at Lowrance is a great resource.

The last time I had a 520 fail it was because of that. Make sure to only talk to Linda, she is the best and will get it taken care of as soon as possible. Let me know if you need her contact info.

Linda is gone until sept.  I talked to her replacement.  he gave me the number and said they would rush it.  think i will make a clear cover to go over it for rainy days.  i did that after my Garmin did the same thing.

guess i just have to quit fishing in the rain.

fear no fish

I had the same thing happen to a HDS 10 last weekend. Called Lowrance and sent it in on Monday. Hope to have a new unit this week. The people at Lowrance were great to work with. Takes forever to get through to them by phone!

Ask for an additional year of warranty on the unit for your trouble -Linda gave me one on my 520 last year with problems.

It seems to me that Lowrance may be great to work with, but the products are made in china and plagued with problems.

I have filled or otherwise destroyed 3 Lowrances and 1 Humminbird.  In all 4 cases, the mfg was great about getting me replacements with in 2 days.  All were infant mortality, seems that after they made 2 or 3 trips on Erie, all is well for the long term.
