Okay, there's a bunch of talk on the board right now regarding the spawn.

Lot's of... "the males are on bed, and the females are still cruising" ...type remarks.

Does anyone have any good techniques for catching the females?

Say you get a limit of males early, and some of them chunky girls would make a nice addition to your limit.

How do you go about catching them?

On Charlevoix, I've heard of guys just throwing a tube off the back of the boat and letting it drag.

But not every lake is like Charleviox.

Anyone have anything they would like to share?

Bulletproof

12 pack of beer, quick wit, and stunning good looks.
I am haunted by waters.

Quote12 pack of beer, quick wit, and stunning good looks.

In the northern regions of Michigan, that's what they call hoggin.
And I don't mean for bass. Usually it only takes the 12 pack, at least that's what I've heard I mean I wouldn't know.

I figured the 12-pack was for the stun part ;D

But seriously, a lot of times in spawn fishing, the bigger females are not far away for a bit after the spawn. Throwing out from the bedding areas to the first break or first good cover will often turn a bigger female or two.

On inland lakes, I've seen the sneaky females move up shallower into heavier cover too. You need to be just as sneaky and stealthily fish the heavier cover near the beds. I also find opportunistic hogs hiding out near bluegill beds nearby sometimes.

That is a major clue. They want to eat, so find a good food source near the bedding areas and fish it hard. Jigs, tubes, Xworms, spots (traps), buzzbaits, slow-rolled spinnerbaits and jerkbaits may get the big one.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

That's good info, especially the heavy cover part.

Kind of sneaky like "the fish on the grassy noll."
Is she there? or is she not?

I got ya!

Going to Wixom lake this weekend and find out if I can catch fish in the front of the boat.
