Crossing in to Canada by car

I know that this crossing in to Canada thread was dealt with this Spring. I looked back at it some, but what I now need from an East Sider is what do you have to have to cross in to Canada in a car. My Alabama brother-in-law wants to drive up and maybe take a two or three day trip in to Canada. Does he need to have a passport to do that? I haven't been across the line by car for years. I've taken the ferry to get my Canadian license, and have crossed by boat, but not by car.

you need a passport or i think a nexus card will work also. Doesn't hurt to have a birth cert with just in case.

we cross into manitoba with guns and a dog and all they ask for is a passport and drivers license and the proper gun forms.

also - make sure to call your bank/credit card companies and your auto insurance company to let them know when you will be there. Most cards won't work (fraud protection) unless you call them. Also, some auto-insurance won't cover you in canada or you need a special form for proof of ins.

Thanks, when are we going fishing? You and Cy ought to come up to the cabin and we'll fish a couple of northwest corner lakes.

I know this won't work for someone from Alabama, but Michigan residents can also travel North America by land and sea using an Enhanced Driver's License.
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

That sounds good to me.  I was thinking Sept or Oct would work good for me.  Justin can hunt ducks all he wants, I would love to come and fish with you Dan.  Thanks for the invite.

Fishing is good and can be at its best, but the weather is a lot iffier. We can set Justin on the beach with a lawn chair and he can get his ducks and we can drink coffee and see what kind of shot he is.

what? you can't fit a 12 ga in your rod locker?

i'll just tie a string of decoys off the back cleat and we can drag them behind the boat.
