Dave Mercer, who has a great series called "Facts of Fishing," did a great job on this weeks installment which features KVD's AOY win. You have to check it out.

I agree with "thedude".   Skeet spanked everyone all year long, only to lose AOY in 2 small tournaments..??   It's just not fair in my eyes.

But, KVD is our Michigan home boy and the best angler I've ever seen play the game.    Roland was very lucky KVD wasn't around back in the day......KVD would have spanked him too!

BS   ;)

KVD didn't spank anyone.  The format for which Roland Martin won from was the same format that would have given Reese the win.  This format does not properly represent what happened all season long.  If it did, then Reese would have been the winner.  This format does not truly make KVD the "king" of anything.  And remember Roland won the AOY nine (9) times in only one format.  KVD won it six (6) times in two different formats.  This new format plays right into KVD's style of fishing.  If you really think about it, it really does not validate KVD's actual abilities as to what kind of fisherman he really is.  The format that Roland Martin won nine (9) AOY's does validate what is the most challenging objective to achieve in any sport...............consistency. I am not saying that KVD is not consistent.  I feel that he will break the record anyway no matter what the format for an AOY title.  It is just going to be sooner under this format and not the one that should really be used.  Reese was consistent all year and really in my mind should be AOY.  Twelve guys get to the AOY tournament and then it is up to letting the best man win.  That's great.............but to me it doesn't really define the fisherman competing for that coveted title.

i thought the champion was the guy who won the classic?

Your right on this one "thedude".  The AOY is just the MVP of bass fishing.  We shouldn't lose sight of that. And it should not have more status than the Bassmaster Classic.  Give it plenty of recognition, but don't make it a better title than a world championship.

Roland never won the Classic. Clunn 4 times, KVD 3. I agree that AOY has, and is, even in the small club circuits the most consistent angler over the course of the season. Changing that format makes it hard to have records in the sport.  The current format is what it is though and for KVD to come from what 40 places back to make the 12 cut and then to win is no small accomplishment, but you're right, it really doesn't make him the most valuable player for the season. I still think he "He farts thunder and craps lightning." Yes, even with 7 Ditka's he could beat the Bears.

Sorry - but i gotta say - if Ditka were in the elite series AOY as the celebrity 13th boat... he'd beat everyone by 20-30lbs and also make KVDs wife pregnant just by winking at her.
