I am on a mission to avoid rod guide damage this year!  I have been using the BPS/Gander Mtn style rods socks with the elastic strap that hold them on.  I use these in the rod locker to avoid damage.  This works as long I am disciplined about using them.

Anybody have experienced with the new style with is made of this mesh stuff normally using for wiring?  A couple people make them, including this guy:

I am wonder if these would stand up to LSC, or stay on when they are strapped in on the passenger side o somebody else's boat?

Vic,

I use Rod Gloves http://www.therodglove.com/ as do the guys who normally fish out of my boat. They have no problem staying on while running or when in the back of a truck. The air flows right through them so they don't wave around in the wind.

The Rod Gloves have a tapered tip design so they slide into rod tubes really well and also prevent your rod tip from ever poking out the end. I actually took the rod tubes out of my boat because I can't fit enough rods in there with them. The Rod Gloves really make it easy to cram as many in there as possible and I don't have to waste time wrapping the line around my rods anymore.

Every once in awhile you will get a hook in the mesh but they come out easily. If your going to be at the Wonderland show this weekend Crooked Creek Tackle will have them. I believe he is going to have special show pricing on them also.

I used to use the BPS or Gander rod socks but have switched over to Stick Jackets over the past year.  They are a lot quicker and easier to take on and off and they seem to do a good job protecting my rods with a lot less tangles.

Bender

I've been using the Cabela's ones with the integrated platic tube to keep from getting hooks snagged. They work really well but take up a lot of space. I have a few of the Rod Glove types and I like that they take up less space but hooks do get tangled. I might switch to them anyway and try using hook bonnets or lure wraps. Or I could stop jamming 25+ combos into my rod locker.

This lady makes some very nice looking ones too: www.putasockonit.biz

I use Rod Gloves too. I like them a lot. I agree with the staying on part. I have taken mine across state in the back of my truck and never had an issue. I have several, but mine all say Grandt Rods on them. I'd let them go pretty resonable.

vic, you will like the rod glove.  i try to buy one everytime i go into gander mt.  its better to spend $10 at a time than to drop $300+ to cover em all.  but thats just me.  im small time.  but the rod glove is the best one i have found.

stik jacket. I did buy another brand from BPS last week that was very similiar to a stik jacket

I have had been thru the gamet with rod covers.. From constantly cutting hooks out of the BPS cloth ones to Stick jackets w/ the flat end that made it a pain at times to get in the rod locker tubes..

Now we www.hookerztackle.com carry Rod Gloves and there is reason for that... They hold up, they go in out of thr rod box or anywhere else with ease and better pricing..

Check out our selection on the website.. We are I believe the cheapest on the web @ $6.50 reg casting and $8 reg spinning.. Yet we have them on sale for another .50 cents off that.. Selection is getting limited so don't wait around.. When the sale is over we will restock..

Super easy to see how many of each style and size we have in stock so you know how many to order.. Click on the style tab and than the color and it will show to the right how many we have left..

We are a GLB sponsor as well.. :)

Thanks for the opinions lads.  I think I'll give the rod gloves a try.

It's snowing now..... SNOW!!!  >:(

Rocknfish

Hi John,
Just placed an order through the Hookerz site and got a pop up that stated that the final price paid through paypal was wrong and could constitute internet fraud? Just FYI...

Thanks,
Aaron
Rock and fish...thats what I do!

Aaron,
Ya it kicks up a fraud transaction on orders within the State of Ohio.. There is a glitch on the Tax side of the site and Paypal.. We have been trying to figure it out but not having any luck.. Problem is the final price it send to paypal @ checkout and the final after it hits paypal and they add tax for in state sales triggers the issue..

The other problem is than is all we get is the email for the payment being recieved but not what the order was or shipping address.. So because of that I sent you an email requesting the list and address..

I am just going to turn off all Tax settings and just eat the 6.75% for now on in State sales until we figure it out..

I will have some Rod Gloves with me at Wonderland on Saturday if anyone wants to look at them. Grandt rod owners, come see me.

Skulley

I have to purchase something along these lines.  I just can not decide what.  I like the Rod Gloves but there are others that have caught my eye too.  Now back to taxes.

Redbone

I just made up a batch of my "Redbone specials".  They are not as nice as rod gloves but I think they will work just fine. I bought my own material and have about a dollar or so into each one. I will post some pics when I am not so lazy.  I couldn't justify dropping $70 into socks.

play for keeps

i received a rod slick brand rod sock for free a while back and it seems to work. it is the nylon mesh style, really easy to put on and off but they seem to take up a lot of space when stored compared to others.

we sell them at gander

This was try #1.  Try #2 and #3 came out better. But I didnt take any pics yet. Just playing around waiting for some softwater.

The Rod Glove is the best I've tried. Easy to get a rod locker and easy to get on and off the rod.
