Some tournament trails dont seem to give trophys. how important is a trophy to you? Or would you much rather have cold hard cash?

I wont fish a tournament if they dont give good trophys!

I would rather have cash but a trophy is nice.

What good is cash? I want my wall full of wood.

Trophys and plaques just collect dust in my basement.

I fished a few midwest sportman tournaments & I can't stand the fact that they only give A small trophy to first place sometimes. Other times I have noticed they don't even give a trophy at all. I am just curious to find out if I am a freak because I like the trophy more than the money. The way I see it you spend the cash a week after the tournament is over and you have nothing to look back on throughout the long winters. Therefore I wont fish them anymore.

Cash is the cake. Trophies are icing on the cake. I prefer my cake with icing, but will take it plain if that is how it is being served. ;D
Peace.
It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

Cold hard cash gets my vote...I've tried paying the mortgage with a trophy but it wouldn't fit in the envelope.

At almost $3.00 gal for gas cash gets my vote. Trophies clog up my carbs and make the boat run like s&*t.

Seeing how I have only one about 3 trophy's in my fishing Carrier? I don't really have to worry about someplace to put them. Also when I do manage to win some money I cant tell my wife I didn't win anything if I am sportin around a big ole plaque saying 3rd place. So, I like the money the best.

I used to be after trophies but my fiance wont let me put them up in the livingroom ( we have very different decorative tastes ) and being that i am broke i have switched my choice to money.

Cash is king and like the others said, you cant pay the bills with trophies or plaques.

WOW, with all the talk of paying bills and mortgages with tournament winnings I must be in the presence of fishing gods.

I can't believe I didn't know that already????

;D ;D ;D ;D

If by fishing god you mean someone who has to scrape together nickles and pennies to fish and pay an entry fee (notice the singular "fee", not "fees"), all the while wondering if he can afford the cost of diapers, formula, gas, etc., then guilty as charged  ;)...It's kinda overrated the god thing...I was hoping to have some super powers or something  :-\'

Cash has no enemies. I'll take dead presidents over dead wood any day.
Look past what they want you to see.

Whatever happen to the good ole days when a club trophy was 3 or 4 feet tall??

Now, you get a little plaque or nothing at all. Doesn't matter, my wife makes me put them all in the trophy box and close the lid on 'em.

I voted with the majority it seems - option number two. I need all the gas money I can find, but sometimes in the winter, I like to sit upstairs in the corner and go through my trophy box... trying to remember which trophy goes with which memories...sigh (if I leave them out, the cats will just pee on them anyway...)

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Thats gonna be tough to beat.  I think dan just won first place in the 'funniest quote of the year' contest!

I'm still liking Josh's 'butt-dart' comment from a while ago, but was that this year... or last year??

I think it has a lot to do with where you are at in your fishing "career" and what kind of club you are in.? When a guy first starts, trophies seem to be the most important, it's like validation to show people so they can say "look, I'm a good fisherman" and to tell the truth, I LOVE trophies. ;D

As guys get more years on them, they become comfortable with their status, and start to have success and get some coin now and then.? It seems like lots of guys think they are in this to make money, which surprises me.? Plenty will not go to a tournament unless they can win some. :(

Here's the happy medium I have found:? ;D ;D ;D

  • In my club, we fish strictly for trophies.? It's all just really about bragging rights and respect, having fun and teaching the newbs how to catch 'em.? This attracts and retains GREAT, AWESOME, HONEST people.? Guys that would give you the shirt off their backs.

  • Now, I like cash as much as the next guy, and it's fun to test yourself against what is generally more stiff competition.  For this I go to opens.  Pay the fee, have a chance to win some $$$.  What's wrong with that?  You can have it both ways, and not spend an arm and a leg doing it.

So it seems that I like both, but to tell you the truth, I'd skip an open or a "pay" event to make my tournaments in the trophy club.  Guess bragging rights are more important to me right now.....   so I'll throw my vote to TROPHIES. :)

I like both, believe it or not I like cash at the club level, usually payouts are lower and trophies eat up some of the payback, and a trophy or plaque at the bigger events, just because there is more prestige at the higher level and the money will be gone either way, but I still have the proof of a good finish. Another thing is that I would rather have a nice plaque that a cheap plastic trophy.
