These days it's the front
I'm thinking 2 casts away and setting myself up

Starting out it was the back
Like you said there less to think about
And you can concentrate more

Trust me guys... once you fish up front for a couple years (or more!!  LOL!!) you kind of just "do" all the things that need to be done without thinking about it.  You know which way the boat is going to go just by the feel of the pedal when you step on it... you have a great view... and you can stop an fish a piece of cover or a dock for as long as you want!!  After a while the pedal just becomes a part of you and you can concentrate all you want.

dartag

up front with the TM on 75%..      Although if there was a TM pedal on the back of the boat that may not be bad.

korean_bassmaster

Ya that might b my problem cuz I don't own a boat and when I do have the chance to b in the front it kinda I guess akward in a way!

huston

Front is the best for me since 99% of the time the other person doesn't know how to operate boat, tm, truck or what  or what lure to use.

i cant fish from the back.  even if im not in my boat, i always find a way to sneek my way onto the trolling motor.  if i have to be in the back, i pout like a 6 year old.  and i throw things at the guy in the front.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I don't mind fishing from the back if the person is giving me a reasonable opportunity to cast at some targets. I really hate when I feel like I'm only getting a chance to cast behind the boat and not able to keep the bait in the strike zone because the boat is moving off too quickly.

I think the one time that the guy in the front may not have the advantage is when you make drifts while fishing current.
When we fish the river the guy in the back of the boat is in the pivot spot. The back end doesn't move as much when you run the trolling motor. When you make corrections on the trolling motor and swing the bow the guy in the front, bait comes off the bottom. Because the guy in the back is the "pivot point" his bait stays in contact with the bottom more, and is in the fish zone longer.
I've seen scenarios several times where the guy in the back is catching more fish in this type of situation.
That's about the only time I can think of though where the back is better than the front.

I fish about 99% of the time alone so when it is windy it is difficult to do anything such as rerigging baits. In that case I prefer the back and enjoy the break every once in a while. I find that I change up baits more often which is something I don't do often enough when fishing from the front.

I only back seat when I have to, like in somebody else's rig.  Even if I don't run the TM, I like to be on the front deck.  I just find the casting angles better than being in the back.

The one time backseating is an advantage is when the wind is blowing directly into the cover you're fishing.  Since the boat needs to be pointed into the wind to hold position, the back deck guy has the prime angle.

But the times I am in the back, I really try to fish hard.  Nothin's as fun as outfishing someone from the back.   ;)

korean_bassmaster

Haha yup! I usually do outfish the front guy. Last yr 2 buddys and I were fishing from a boat on wixom and I put up 15lbs from the back to there 9lb combine! It was a good day that day!
