Hey bob,

Friend and myself are thinking about heading down there saturday morning to try it out. What ramp do you launch out of and what is the easiest way to get there?

djkimmel

Where are you coming from and what part of the lake do you plan to fish?

From Wixom, he just moved down there (from lansing) So we figure it would be a good chance to see what St. Clair has to offer. Dont care where we get out at, just want to get on fish and see what we can produce. Going to be early morning, looking for smallies, I know the 8-13ft range is what ppl have been keying on so hopefully it works for us. His boat isn't the best so long runs are not really wanted (120hp 18.5 ft). If anyone reading this see's an old greyish boat with a big fat guy on the back, dont be afraid to come by and say hello, I'm 6'6" and about 3ft wide (ok maybe not that bad lol)

If you get there early, early on the weekends, or fish during weekdays, you can use the MDNR Cutoff Ramp off of Jefferson just South of the Metro Park. Good for small boats with short access to the Mile Roads. It tends to silt in on one side though they do dredge it out from time to time, but you can launch bass boats there. It also tends to fill up early on the weekends.

If you want to head north, then go to Harley Ensign MDNR ramp at the end of the Clinton River just North of the Metro Park. Both are cheaper than launching at the Metro Park and no charge if you bought a Recreational Passport yet.

bbtt123

ooooh...you got a real bassboat lol. We will be in a white with greyish trim trailblazer with an old beatup boat....cant miss us top speed of 28mph out there burning up the lake!!! lol Maybe you can tow us out to the miles so we can fish quicker lol

FARK, 3 strikes i'm out, but i am fishing somewhere tomorrow, i just don't know where yet. hahahaha

Team houston

I think 94 will be closed from Gratiot for 6 miles going east into Harper woods. This will be on the weekends with only lane closures during the week. At least that is how I read it in the paper. Bob o you can still fish just dont launch at Metro and take 696 across. Expect lots of company if you do Approx 120 bass boats.

djkimmel

It's a giant lake. Just don't go early to Metro Beach. Most of the BFL anglers will launch there. Only a handful launch at Harley. Wouldn't matter since Harley holds over 150. Lots of the Jobbie Nooners also launch at the Cutoff ramp and leave their trailers there in the past so get there early or launch somewhere else.

I bet the evil traffic demons thought I was coming over this weekend. They always seem to close 696 when I'm coming over. Sounds like other parts of I-94 might be messed up this weekend too. Barring weather, they are saying I-94 will be closed at I-696 so you'll be rerouted anyway.

Just go 696 to either M-97 (Groesbeck) or M-3 (Gratiot) and take that up to 16 Mile/Metropolitan Parkway. I'm getting used to going that way anymore...  ::)

yea on my way over for the mad wags spring thing i took the 696 to mound to 16mile b/c of road construction.

bob o

ok the wife just backed out (to early) so the offer is still out there for LSC i'm planning on being at the cut off ramp/croker ramp whatever you want to call it for 6:00am PM me if you want a ride

bbtt123

Well, we promptly got out on the water and was going to float around in the bay area and wait for you, we got out early so we were gonna run the boat for a few to warm it up because it hasn't been out this year. Well we got just outside of the harbor area and the boat went haywire. Newly rebuilt engine and its only running on 2 cylinders out of the 4 and its only the top two working right now. We ended up floating out a ways so we couldnt meet up with you at the launch...hope the fishing was good.

djkimmel

That's not the way you want you first day out to go.
