The card should be good out of the package.  Make sure you see the card as a save location within My Computer.  As long as you see it you shoud be able to save to it.

Yeah, when you plug your card into your computer, it should be treated like an external hard drive.

What version of Windows do you have? You do have a card-reader slot in your computer or a USB card reader, right?

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

1) Put the sd card in your computers sd card slot.
2) Click the: Start > Computer > select the SD Card > Right click the select Open so you can see what is on the Card.
3) Delete everything off the card so there are no other files on it.
4) Log in to your account at humminbird or create an account if it you do not have one.
5) Register the unit.
6) After it is registered Select it from your list of items you have registered.
7) Click "download" in the lower right corner.
8) when prompted to save, click the arrow down and select "save as"
9) Then navigate to your sd card on your computer and save it there.
10) After it saves it, click your Start button on your desk top and navigate to the SD card and right click on it then select open to see if there is a file on it. If you erased everything before, it will be the only set of files on it.
11) Go to your HB unit and turn it on but not with the card in it because you need to restore it to the default settings first. If you have any waypoints you will won't to save them first before restoring or you will lose them.
12) follow the prompts to restore defaults.
13) after complete turn the unit off and install the card.
14) Turn the unit back on and follow the promts to load updates.
15) that should do it.
