Wacky fishing questions

Several questions about fishing a wacky worm/senko.

1) what is everyone's favorite hook for fishing a wacky worm/senko?

2) anyone use a wacky tool with the rubber O ring? Does it work well? Any input would be appreciated.

I used the Gamakatsu Finesse Wide Gap hooks last year and really liked them.  I had very few missed fish due to hook issues.

I will use an o ring most of the time I wacky rig.  I like the increased bait life, I think it improves the action of the bait and helps with hookups.

During tournaments I use the Trokar Octopus/drop shot hook, either size 1 or 1/0 depending on the situation.  I always use the O ring as this extends the life of the bait a lot and also gives it a little faster fall.

I have exactly the same comment...... will not go wrong with either

I often use a Gamagatsu EWG 2/0 with my senko baits.  I can whacky rig it just fine, but if I find the need I can also texas rig it (weedless).  You can't really texas rig with octopus or finesse widegap.

But, if I know for a fact I am not going to need to texas rig it I use the finesse wide gap.

I always use the whacky tool and ring.  Saves you a ton of money!

It is really interesting to hear the strong support for the wacky tool.

Is there a brand that you all have a preference to?

Also, I should have specified that I wanted to hear about a weedless wacky hook. Are most of the ones mentioned not weedless? Do you guys think weedless hook are unnecessary? What about weedless? I know at least one was weedless and would like to hear about more.

I use the O Wacky Tool.  I like them cuz I get them cheap, they  work and they are are by a great company!

I rarely use weed less hooks and I don't what brand they were.

Instead of the wacky tool I use 3/8 shrink wrap tube cut real thin. Slide your senko or whatever thru it and put the hook right thru the tubing. Works great and saves a ton of baits.

You don't have to hook it like your saying with the o-ring. What I do is insert the hook next to one side of the o-ring a little ways into the plastic then poke through next to the oppisite side of the o-ring. That way the hook is facing up on the stick bait because its in the plastic in that direction but still has the strength to not rip out quickly since its still behind the o-ring.

More importantly, if you are not using the original "O Wacky" tool, you are not fishing wacky rig correctly.

I always use the O Wacky tool and O-rings.  I rig it the same way as TCook describes - keeping the hook perpendicular to the worm but going on opposite sides of the O-ring.  I always use Gamakatsu hooks.  I like the Finesse Wide Gap size 1 for 4" and the 1/0  for 5-6".

Cy introduced me to the o-rings. Then, he sold me the wacky tool at the Novi fishing show two years ago. I use the same hooks he does. I guess I am Cy' s copy cat. It can definitely be a lot of fun.

shrink tubing or just plain bare with ewg 1/0 or 2/0.  Also, use o'rings I have from work.

I like a 2/O EWG Gamakatsu hook.  I always use the Wacky Tool for my O-rings.  It really does save you money on baits.

I buy a foot of surgical tubing of correct diameter and cut dozens of rings on the cheap.

Try some of the lighter weights  wacky jigs. I've had great success on clear deeper water then you would fish weightless wacky.

1/0 Octopus hook is a great hook for the wacky rig.
