Anybody tried this rig instead of buying those expensive Bifflehead type jigheads?

djkimmel

I think I read about it some time ago and hadn't added it to my arsenal yet. I liked the looks of it but if I don't add to my todo list, it often doesn't make it onto my schedule. I like the looks and idea of it for sure. I remember thinking the same thing I always do - "why didn't I think of that?!?"

I'll bet someone has used it out there this year and is hoping we don't talk about it! ;D

it works really good to get the most out of it you will want to use a floating craw type bait

No I have the Biffle type jig and they work really well on Guntersville.  I have never tried them up North.  I fished a lot of natural inland lakes last year with very few rock piles.  That type of jig doesn't work to well in weeds.

After I looked it up on the internet, I thought, that Jika Rig system was much much cheaper than all the types of jig heads. Then I thought of a similar system and went and made it. I think it's more functional than the split rings for changing the hook and the weight. If you use floating type baits, it ought to be a killer.  Owner Hooks sells an identical system to the Jika Rig called the Jig Rig for big bucks. You can make this yourself for a fraction of that. My adaptation is even better.

So, when do you name and market your version? When are you putting up some example pictures? :)

So Huston give us some more details about how to make. I have plenty of time before fishing season starts and already made some a-rigs with my son so another father son project would be fun.

Since I think GLB is the best place on the internet with a great group of people, I'll tell it. One of the great features of the Jika Rig is it's so called ability to change hooks or weights  by sliding them off the split rings. Well in place of the the split ring I substituted a Norman speed clip and this made changing hooks or weights much easier. The idea of the Norman speed clip in place of the split rings makes you think of other possibilities such as how far up or down to put weight. Look up the Jika Rig on Youtube.

Huston-thanks for the idea on the speed clips for the Jika Rig.  Have used it and like it much-making my own with split rings though.  The Biffle rig is cool too, esp. with the football head type weight they sell.  Havent used the Biffle before though, friends have.  Thanks again.
