Last night I was at Lake Macatawa in Holland and there were about 10 people fishing on the bank. so i went topside to the new pier that had been built and worked the old pier that got tore down because there are still Pilings and a few rocks still standing. I kept looking around me to see if anyone was catching anything and i did not notice that they were, ( most were bait fishing or what i call, the lazy mans fishing) in about 15 min on the pier i got a smallie strike and landed it, nothing big tho prolly a pound and a half, but nonetheless still fun to catch. here is the funny part. when i caught that fish, i dont like to open a whole new can of worms (no pun intended) and bring alot of attention to myself. I just caught it, took a pic and tossed it back....within 1min of throwing it back, half the people that were bank fishing came up to the pier to start fishing right next to me. This really annoyed me because  now i have to compete to cast and make sure i dont cross anyones line or accidentally hook someone in the skull..everyones talking and cutting up. and Keep in mind, im not racist by any means but all the people that came up there were asian. so my next question, is this ok or customary in the asian culture to get shoulder to shoulder  with someone who catches one fish? i just packed my stuff and went somewhere else. I was really irritated to say the least. I think it is very unsporting to do that.  its not the first time that it has happened either. I always find my own location and usually get at least 50yards or more fromt he next guy.  i know that this has to be an unwritten rule about bugging the crap out of other people when they are fishing. just like when someone walks by and asked me if i have caught anything, i always reply with " Nah man''.  does this ever happen to you guys? >:(

This kind of thing happens all the time and not just shore fishing. Last week when I was out fishing on the Mile Roads of St. Clair, I caught a fish and within 5 minutes there were 6 boats within 200 yards of me. I try not to fish in a crowd so I moved along using the trolling motor. I hooked another and before you know it, 6 more boats within 200 yards.....again. Here is the kicker.......none of ant of these boats had Asians on them. So we can't really stereo-type this behavior.

I wasnt trying to stereo type, im just curious of why people have no class and any respect for peoples space when someone else is fishing... thats why i asked if it was a culture thing or not but i guess its not. its more or less just people who are naive or oblivious of their surroundings i guess... its a good thing you didnt catch a 12 pounder, then they would have been bow to stern on you....then yall could have just all moored up together and had one big fishing party....

It's called the "Bent Rod Patern."  Lots of people use it.  Better than a Humminbird side finder!  Very popular pattern on Lake St. Clair.
Addicted to fishing.  All the time, any species, anywhere!!  Especially in West Michigan!!!

Yes it is. So popular that most anglers don't even use their electronics.    :o

You mean I could have gotten through last Saturday without using my electronics?  Sweet!  No more worrying about having to jump the big motor with trolling motor batteries!  Thanks for the tip Mike. ;D

Many of you might not know, but the guy who 'invented' that particular fishing 'pattern' is a guy I know well... for many years... his name is Ben Trodder. He is a master of disguise. Never quite looking exactly the same each time you 'meet' him. He also fishes out of many boats to throw you off a little. Watch for him. If you are catching fish good, you very well may meet him!

Actually ole Ben is a little more accepted in some fishing circles...

but not so much in the bass, and bass tournament fishing circles... not so much.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I did last year. Between the fish finders, and the livewells, I didn't have a chance. I was going to upgrade to a dual purpose Deka 31, but it wouldn't fit in the boat. I did end up going to a bigger Deka, forget which one, and it did really well on St Clair this weekend. I did run one livewell to keep my rock bass alive in hopes of a big ugly.

Good choice on the Deka Dual Purpose! That's what I use though all in 31 size. Size matters! ;D Make sure you have some jumper cables handy if you're running lots of things off your starting battery and don't run the big motor very much during the day - more common I think for you West side anglers. Sounds like you do have jumpers.

Yeah, we don't typically run the big motor as much as the east side boys do. LSC is something like 70 times as big as Muskegon. That is ridiculous. I do have jumper cables. Wouldn't dream of leaving home without them. I learned that the hard way last year at a Wednesday night NBAA on Muskegon. Luckily, Aaron had a set in his boat that I got to use.

djkimmel

It could be worse! A certain JVD got chewed out by a certain KVD for having the same issue during an Elite Series event!!! That is REALLY learning the hard way!! He's got them in the boat now!!

I would have been good that day, but my wife and kids like to go out in the garage and sit in the boat while I'm getting ready for a fishing trip the night before. I think my 2 year old turned my master power switch on. But, no big deal. It was family time. I like it when they do that stuff.

yeah, happens a lot here too. I get disgusts as well.....not a whole lot you can do. If you're like me you can get mouthy....but I don't recommend doing that.

You can't stereo-type. I've ran into them all,No idea what it is....but some people just don't have the respect. Plain and simple. It seems to be in every walk of life.

Their excuse is "you don't own the lake/spot"....True,but show some respect.....because if you don't More than not I won't either and I'll go out of my way to make you get peeed off at me and leave. yeah,I can be childish...I make no buts about it....I caught 12 smallmouths in one spot one time(back to back cast) and next thing I know I had 15..yes,15 people move right next to me. We were crossing lines and everything else...I ended up putting my stuff in the car...went back and just started..."skipping stones" in the water. Boy did pee off all 15 of them...they told me to stop and I go "no,you don't own the lake/spot".   ;D Yes I can be a smart arse sometimes......It was only time I did that. Not sure why I felt like proving a point but that day I did. 90% of the time i just pack it up and leave.

Thats what i started doing, I tell my son to just start throwing rocks in the water and we run down the bank and play tag and stuff just to annoy the crap out of em.....or cast close enough to get "accidentally" hung on someone elses line...then when they say something, I usually reply with some Smartazz comment like " I didnt get tangled up on anything before you showed up, I dont know that the deal is now" .   I have a concealed gun license so im not at all concerned about someone getting physical....Taurus .44 magnum...
