Only had a couple of hours to get out this morning so I wanted to fish someplace close.  I headed over to Lake Neppessing but the Launch was closed because they are repaving it.  It is good to see that they are upgrading that ramp so I wasn't too upset.
I headed down to Lakeville lake instead.  The skys were super clowdy and there was quite a bit of chop on the water so I knew bedfishing would be tough so I headed over to some flats. I started out close to shore and things weren't happening there so I moved out into 5-6 feet of water on the flats and started picking up Fish on a Bladeless swim Jig...I ended up catching 14 cookie cutter fish between 14-16 inches in about an hour.   I am pretty sure they were males guarding fry...I saw quite a few empty beds but no one was home...I also saw alot of fish roaming the flats and they didn't seem to be holding to a bed or structure.  Surface temperature was 68 degrees so I am thinking that the spawn may be on the downward trend there.
I fished the North end of the lake on the flats close to deeper water.
I think Lakeville Lake could be an awesome lake if it was managed for Fishing instead of recreation taking the priority.  The weedkills they do in the summer really hurt its potential.  The lake has everything, deep water, big flats, humps, creek channels, stumps etc etc..
It was a nice day. There were a few crappie fisherman out there, I wish I would have taken the time to see how they were doing...My wife caught a monster crappie out of there a few years ago. I wouldn't mind targeting them for a change of pace..

If we really want to improve bass fishing on a number of inland lakes, we need to get involved in weed treatment plans and moderate them somehow. I've only been on Lakeville during the youth event in the past but it was a wild looking lake. It should be really good.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Lakeville used to be amazing a few years ago.  You could go out there and catch a 15+ lb. limit no problem.  Now it is just dink city and you have to work pretty hard to find the big ones.
