I have fished St Clair for smallmouth about 10 times mainly spring thru mid-summer. Have only fished Anchor Bay out of Selfridge. I want to come up Oct 10th thru 24th .I am not looking for any spots but my concern is the wind. I have a newly acquired Lowe 1710 backtroller with a 60hp Tiller with very high sides. I have read everything I can on handling the wind and waves. What I would like would be a few suggestions on (if the wind is from the n,s,e,w where should I put in to be able to fish and if the wind is this high when to roll over and catch a few more winks. I have never fished the channels and I am looking forward to trying them this trip. I do not want to go into Canadian water. Any help or websites where I can get this information would really be appreciated Thanks again
PS will be staying with my son in St Clair

Hey Joe don't know much about wind how it runs but if you want to hit the channels to avoid the lake you need to put in at algonac north channel 23 mile rd dnr launch you will have access to all the channels and the river.

That time of year I would concentrate on larger shallower flats more so than the Channels.... Anchor bay has plenty of those if you are concerned about the wind....You can also fish up and down the shallower water in the mile roads if the wind is right....

As far as wind direction...anything out of the west up to 20 mph is pretty safe on the American side...East winds and south winds are the toughest as far as boat control...I start paying attention when those winds are over 15mph...North winds are generally safe up to 20mph....

Just try to launch as close as you want to fish as possible that way if things turn bad you can get the boat on the trailer quickly.....You can launch at Crocker and hug the shoreline and be pretty safe even in a stiff west wind....  Pay attention to the NOAA reports and check the bouy data before you go...

If the wind is blowing really hard don't forget about the Largemouth action in the Channels........

Bottom line though is better safe than sorry.......An experienced bass Fisherman from Michigan rolled his bass boat when it filled with water in heavy swells during a tournament Sunday.....That is one other point...Make sure you have working Bilge pumps and wear your PFDs.....
