near Crocker or Clinton River Cut Off or Selfridge on LSC?? Coming up in middle may and want to purchase Ethanol Free in the area OTHER  than on the water due to price. Hope the lake comes up more and the fish are very hungry. Thanks "A b**deleted** has to be crazy to travel 800 miles just to fish when he lives on a great lake" :D :D :D

Waterfoul

My advice would be to bring some Valvetek or Stabil Marine treatment with you.  Getting harder and harder to find ethanol free gas on the trailer.

There is a couple of Marinas on the lake that are Ethanol free...There is a BP marina right at the Clinton river launch but I am not sure if it is ethanol free or not...

Probably the only place you are going to find ethanol free around here is right on the water...

cameraguy

Michigan does not require stations to label pumps if it is E10 (10% ethanol) mix. So good luck.

Puregas.com

Maybe I missed something. What does this link have to do with this topic?

I think Anglers Point across from the Hall rd or Selfriege Launch carries Ethanol free gas.Great people to deal with also.

I think he meant this link: http://pure-gas.org/   It's a list of Ethanol free gas stations.

Got Fish??

My employer bought some ready  mix ethanol free fuel it's over $30 a gal.

huston

I stand corrected, Puregas.org  is a website that list gas stations by geographic location that sell various types and grades off gas.

Rangerman

Thanks guys I am aware of Puregas.com and use it alot traveling and fishing. I guess I'll just to have to trailer with twin full tanks. The price of fuel on the water is just too high. I used all the snake oil, Stabile Marine and Ring Free in my last engine and it blew big time due to Ethanol. My new engine has never seen a drop of anything but Ethanol Free. We have right many stations in the area have a special pump called RV Fuel with is 0% Ethanol Free an is tested by the state but again it's 40-60 cent higher that crap gas, but well worth the price to keep things running smooth. I have not checked the price on the water at LSC but here on the lakes it's about a dollar or so higher lake side. I ratter spent the money on more fishing tackle and more trips to LSC and other great lakes.

BIGSHOW

I checked out the stations that offer it in Michigan and one thing I noticed is they are almost all 89,90,91+ octane. Doesn't that higher octane make it run hotter? Or at least exceed the manufactures recommendations? I know I was told before not to go higher than 87...

Higher octane will actually run cooler in most engine applications....Running higher octane fuels in low compression engines is generally a waste of money...but it won't damage your motor...(At least any fuel you can buy at a pump)

The higher the octane the slower burning the Fuel..In a high compression motor you need slower burns because the more you compress the Air/fuel mix the hotter it gets..If the fuel ignites too soon it can cause pre-detenation (spark knock) and do damage to the motor...That is why you need a slow burning fuel...

Rangerman..If you are concerned about Ethanol, tests kits are cheap and can be found all over....It only takes a few minutes..

I don't know crap about Outboard engines but have done alot of testing in 2 strokes for MX... ;D...

Waterfoul

All the tests I've read (including one from Mercury) say that running high octane (90+) in a motor that does not require it can cause damage to the valvetrain/roatating asseblies due to the unburned fuel (slower burn as mentioned) POST detonating in the hot cylinder.

Simple answer... run the gas your motor is designed to run on.  Any other gas is a waste of money and issue for potential damage.  The ethanol treatments out there are not a 100% cure all but the will help the situation, especially if you leave fuel in your tanks for more than 30 days at a time, or are running an older motor with pre-ethanol fuel lines and tanks.

That's a great piece of info there motocross. I only listened to half so far but there is alot of good stuff. The powerpoint presentation sure beats reading for an hour..They make it interesting.

Rangerman

Thanks guys for the info, I would think local stations around LSC would have a pump for 0% ethanol ;D Believe me ethanol is a killer to all gas engines. Starting to so up in the higher mileage auto's and trucks. Rember corn is good on the cob, popped and and in a mason jar. Not worth a Ding Dong in a gas tank ;D

There are alot of stations on the water with 0% ethenol. Just the higher octane. Some will argue that its not bad for your engine but like waterfoul said going against manufactures recomendations can be bad. Its kinda like a darned if I do and darned if I don't. But we'll be in real trouble if the 15% ethenol comes out. Another thing. Like the presentation said. Phase seperation is inevidable. The products that say they prevent it are lying. It may just delay it.

None of the additives will STOP the separation.  But they will all delay it... in most cases long enough for you to use the gas up, or get your boat out of storage.

Which was longer than I wanted this year (in storage)
