Those who are going to Marshal the B.A.S.S. St. Clair event, what are you doing about the email saying that you need your enhanced drivers license, passport, or... Is the enhanced license worth the bother or should I just get a passport??

I never got an email...??? At least that I know of, I do delete BASS emails pretty quickly...

I have an enhanced license. It is pretty painless but takes a couple of weeks to process...I also have a Passport

Passports take a little longer and are a little more hassle but are good for 10 years..

I don't know where BASS is getting the info that you need an enhanced license...The only reason I got it was to save any hassle but no where in the ontario regs have I seen where you need an Enhanced license or a passport when crossing into Canadian water as long as you don't anchor...(If you are a US citizen)..But it is BASS' game and they make the rules...

I have done pleny of "Googling" on this and I have yet to find anything official that says you need any special documentation when crossing over other than a Drivers license(Proof of Residence). The birth certificate helps to authenticate US citizenship...

If you are fishing where you may cross the International border, you should have some way of clearly identifying your citizenship and/or place of birth - an enhanced drivers license, passport or true certified copy of your birth certificate. Just call it a simple insurance policy to take one less worry out of your fishing day.

Ontario has redefined their definition of 'landing in Ontario' though they say all they did was start enforcing the original definition... The US is still going by the 'as long as you don't touch Canadian soil' but Ontario is going by 'you crossed their border.'

Just make sure everyone on board has some acceptable way of identifying who they are and their citizenship. Make sure you call the number right after you cross the border, not before or long after. Then, enjoy your fishing.

B.A.S.S. has learned from some of you that the following states Michigan, New York, Vermont and Washington now issue EDL (Enhanced Driver's Licenses)  Anyone who posses an EDL from one of those four states is allowed to travel to and from Canada via land or sea.

Thank you

Important Notice: Canadian waters are part of both of these events.  If an Elite pro fishes in Canadian waters every occupant of the boat is required to have either their passport or their original birth certificate.  You must bring one of these items to the tournament with you.  If you have any questions or concerns please call the office at 205-313-0900.

Pretty much a good idea even if not popular. I would assume 'original birth certificate' just means you can't copy it on your copier. You have to have a certified copy with the actual raised stamp of the county clerk. But you might want to confirm that with B.A.S.S. since I have no power over their tournament director's decisions and definitions.

I ordered some extra copies from my county clerk or the county clerk where I was born. Can't remember for sure, but it was pretty easy to figure out online and inexpensive.

I just keep one of the certified copies with my fishing license. I also have the enhanced drivers license. Same reason I have a cell phone AND a VHF radio in my boat, and at least 2 of any of my goto lures. One isn't enough.

I'm using the birth certificate. Not gonna spend the time or money on an updated passport or the enhanced license that I dont need for anything other than this event anyways.

But, don't get caught fishing in Canadien waters without a Canadien license.  I know marshalling doesn't require it, but the minute you put a line in the water they can issue you a citation.

Marshal's aren't allowed to fish in Elite Series events. As long as they don't have a fishing rod/reel in their hand it shouldn't be a problem. I only recall once or twice over all these years where someone had a discussion in Canadian water about who was fishing regardless of them seeing the person fishing or not.

aren't most major tournaments fished with 2 anglers as a team for a five fish limit, or a pro/am 5 fish limit for the pro 3 fish limit for the am, either case the number of fish in boat will be below the state limit of 5 fish per angler. don't forget the cameraman for the final day TA DA

No. The BASS Elite Series pros are the only contestants in their boat. There is an observer, or marshall, in the back. The pros are allowed to keep 5 fish to weigh in.

The BASS opens the pros keep 5 and the back-seaters keep up to 3.

Neither the FLW TOUR, Everstart, nor BFL are team tournaments.
