Now that I got some tips on how to choose line, I wanted to follow up with a question or two on spooling the line on the reels.

What is the best method for spooling your reels, both baitcasters and spinning?

Which lines exhibit the most memory? the least?

How often do you re-spool?

Just some things I was thinking about.

I spool both baitcaster and spinning reels the same.  I have someone or something hold the line with tension and I crank it on from the top of the spool.  I think it is very important to take the line from the top.

I think braid has the least amount of memory.  Other lines it seems to be based on the manufacturer more them the type of line.

I am very passionate about re-spooling line.  I feel that the line might be the most important connection between you and the fish.  I change the majority of my line before each tournament, so about once a week.  I try and eliminate any factor that can cause me to loose fish.  In other words I try not to leave anything to chance.  Line is too cheap to have it be the difference between cashing a check and not.

If you are not tournament fishing and depending on how much you fish.  I would change line every spring if you are a light angler and every month if you are a heavy angler.  You can also tell when you line is getting old or beat up.  Keep in mind mono is degrated by sunlight and the elements.  Fluoro is brittle, especially when you over kink it or back lash your reel.

Not that people don't know this already but I want to mention it because it is along the topic of fishing line.  Make sure you retie you baits once in a while.  Catching fish, rocks, wood and especially zebra mussels will fray, cut and damage any line.  Loosing baits is bad but loosing fish is horrible.
