im going to fish lake chumung (i think thats how u spell it ???) for my first time this year i was wondering if any one had any tips on where to fish and/of what lures work good? ne tips?

Watch out for the sand bar on the left when you get out to the main lake it is a boat eater. The lake is a great lake to fish there are some nice LM and some big pike in it. Around the sandbar there is a weed line if you fish it slow with senko's or shakeyheads you should do well. I fish there alot in the summer as it is close to home.

You don't even have to burn any gas at Chumung. Launch and head around the point to the right and drop a jig in 7 to 9 feet and watch out!

stackenem

You are so right about the point Dan it is a hot spot at times. If you go down the right side of the main lake there is a deep weedline right off the drop that holds some big LM's also. But I will not give up my hot spot no matter how much you ask. All you need to find is Big Mel's Dock.

ODK,

In my opinion Chemung is a great lake to sight fish May/June as the water can be very clear.

You will see alot of 3 pound LM's and surprising to me, alot of Cat Fish ???

Like Stackenem said make sure you know where the rock pile is... It is approx. in the middle of the lake off the main point...

I have never fished it before either but I want to get out there this year. I have heard horror stories about the rock pile as well. Is this where it is?

I have never been out on Chemung or Woodland.  I live 10 minutes from both.  I will be spending some time out there this year tho.

Chris, we should get out there together and check it out.  I like the sound of jigs, points, and weedlines.  SOunds like my kinda party.

Whenever I have been to Chemung, the rockpile has had a couple of milk jugs on top of it, so it generally stands out pretty well.  The drop that surrounds the rock pile has always been a good producer for me with wacky rigged Yum-Dingers and crankbaits cast parrellel to the weed edge.
Chemung is a pretty fun lake to fish and you can catch them pretty good out there.  It's not too bad for ice fishing either.

McCarter.
I'll take you to Woodland..  It is a fun lake.  I fished it 3 or 4 times last summer and had a good day each time.
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

Brian, Woodland is 5 minutes from my shop and Chemung is 5 minutes from home. I plan to try those a little more than B&L Crooked this year. Scheduled to pick up the new boat on Saturday so keep in touch as soon as the ice clears. I went to Woodland 2 or 3 times last year and had a decent time, not lots of numbers but some nice keeper sized fish.
