Got out with an old friend of mine and had a great day.  I can't share a ton of what happened that morning due to my partner that day fishing an upcoming tourney and asking me to keep things kind of quiet, but I do want to share the best part of the day for me.  We got out early and fished a deep main lake area and as I had hoped the bass were in a full summer pattern, grouped up out in the middle of the lake like usual.  But the awesome part was catching them on top while they were feeding on fish flies.  I'm sure this activity won't hold up much past this week, but it was fun while it lasted.  All we had to do was watch for the bass porpoising on the swaths of fish flies and toss a topwater into the middle of the feeding activity.  My partner was much more successful at this than I was but it was way cool to watch.  Normally this time of year as the fish flies start to fade away, I go out and find the pods of husks and fish beneath them in deep water on the main lake.  I started doing this a few years ago and it works.  A lot of time, you can catch them off the bottom underneath the pods of husks as long as you're in the depths they hold in and as long as there is grass.  Fun times.  I hope to get out with my daughter tomorrow.  We'll see what happens.  Can't wait.

Sounds like fun Tom.  I imagine catching LSC smallies on topwaters is more fun than the spinnerbait bite?

Oh yeah.  There's nothing like it.  :)
