How many of the guy's on this board are getting paid money from sponsors? Not a discount on product but cash money!!!! I am going to be starting a fishing team for my new company, and would like to know how many guy's will do it for product, and how many will want cash! I would like to have about a 6 man team. What is the going rate for a guy that is fishing local tournaments?

Revtro

Depends on the product.  What will your team fish?

I get a cash form all my sponsors, but I intentionally target sponsors that pay in cash.  I sell it as advertisting so the pricing is different depending on the size and placement of logo or business name.  I would do a deal for product or product and cash, if I believed in the product and assuming we are talking about a fishing product, it would have to catch fish.

This is not an ad for a Pro staff position. I am just getting a feel for what most guy's are geting paid.

Are you actually asking for dollar figures?  Honestly, I would be surprised if anyone would actually respond here with one.  If you are looking to pay 6 guys to rep your stuff, I would say the market would set the price (e.g., what caliber guy you are targeting and what it is you're specifically asking them to do for you), especially for good, high-profile guys.

I am not asking for there sponsors just a dollor amount. Let me put it another way.

What would you expect from a sponsor, that is a non fishing company. You would be expected to generate sales and get leads to new customers. Wear my shirt and a decal on vehical and boat.

Maybe that will clear it up. Let me know what Tournaments you fish and rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 in fishing and in sales.

Most contracts and agreements are confidential.

Maybe ask if people are interested in noting what they've heard anglers have gotten for similar deals. Maybe ask for a PM if someone wants to share a little detail, but won't post it publicly.

You could also post what you are thinking seems fair compensation for a similar engagement and ask for opinions on whether or not what you are thinking seems reasonable.

Endemic sponsors seem to 'pay' in discounts and product at the local level, although some pay money for show work, expenses, gas, while non-endemic sponsors seem to be more likely to pay money/entry fees. Seems like the general order most of the time.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

My one sponsor pays me an annual fee of $10,000. I do not work shows, nor tow boats. This sponsor is not in the fishing industry. They also provide me with a truck and take care of insurance and gas. I display the logo of the company on the truck. I also handle their fishing promotions program which mails out lures to customers or potential customers.

Does this help?

In motocross it is a violation of the contract with most sponsors to discuss the terms of your deal...I know this isn't racing, but it is what I am familiar with....Check out sponsorhouse.com...I am still getting offers from companies off that site, and I didn't race most of last year.  There are a few Bass Fisherman there.

I would rate myself a 9 in sales and a 8 in fishing. I am a sales rep for scotts (ortho, roundup, miracle-gro, osmocote) And I have a major background in sales. I also win a lot of money and know a lot of people. I don't fish huge tournaments. I fish mainly top bass, midwest sportsman, and several open tournaments. I would be happy to do what you are asking for 3000 a season. (thats fishing atleast one tournament every weekend spring-fall. That would just about be enough to pay for most entry fees and a little tackle.

I guess I did not make it clear This is not an add for a pro staff position, please stop the pm to get a deal. I just want to get a feel of what I should offer the guy's that I have in mind for my pro staff. I aperciate the feed back from the guy's that are giving me spme feed back.

Thanks

Jason, try drafting a specific description of what a team position is for your company vs. your idea of what a Pro Staff person does.  When I read your description of what you want your guys to do (generate sales and leads, wearing your shirt and logo), it honestly doesn't sound any different than what is expected of someone who is a Pro Staffer in my mind.  Or, it could be that you are referring to Promotional Staff vs. Professional Staff?  Maybe that's where the confusion is?

**Edit:  I just reread your post and looks like I was the confused one...I read it as you are looking for guys that will sell, drum up leads, etc, but you did not consider that to be a Pro Staff position (by definition), when in fact you are saying your not soliciting for Pro Staff...two completely different things...Sorry dude...

I hope you didn't take my PM that way.  I gave you all the ifo you asked for...lol  I do hope that gave you an idea what to do with your team.

I've been in this business quite a while, and most guys are not getting paid cash.  IMO, the only guys who might be worth paying are the ones getting major magazine and/or TV exposure........Not the guy who wins his bass club or places well in the Wed. Nite tournament.   This may sound blunt, but paying somebody just to wear your shirts and put a sticker on their boat is just like throwing away money.  You'll never get a worthwhile return, if any at all.

If you feel you have to pay people, make them earn it first.  Pay them only if they work shows or for commission on sales they make.  This business is saturated with guys who want a deal (and a patch!), and once they get their stuff you'll never see them again (till they want more).  Those guys are easy to spot from a mile away (I'm sure your PM is full of them!).  My advice to you is to start out small and increase compensation as they prove their worth and your company grows.
