KVD smoking em, but what are your thoughts about Mr. Lanes sportsmanship at the end. Not a good example IMO

He must hang around Ike to much.   They get free rods so I am sure it is no big deal to him

Team houston

I don't see it as a sportsmanship issue. I see it as frustration boiling over when he couldn't get it done under pressure. Thats why that format is great because you know how everybody else is doing. Which puts a lot of pressure on you.

markgoetsch

He apologized on facebook yesterday for his actions.

dartag

Wonder how they pick the anglers. I think Duckett owns the production company so he may choose

stackenem

Seems to be a trend with him. He did the same thing last year when he didn't make the cut. You didn't see any of the others breaking rods and making a big fuss over it.

Pretty sure Duckett and Klein own it that's why you don't see FLW anglers besides Brent. It would be cool if FLW did their own version of it!

If a guy wants to have a meltdown I have no problem with it. He is just hurting himself. In Lanes case it did'nt hurt him because he was eliminated anyway. I have witnessed KVD get peeed and throw his spinning rod into the water. He quickly composed himself and commented he better fish it out he may need it later. I believe it was a tourney in Texas.

Dan

I just watched Bobby and yes he broke a rod, and maybe should have had more control, but he never got "Richard Shermanish." Big difference in my opinion. Bobby was obviously upset with himself, and did a bit of a dance. I also read his post online and he regretted the incident. I still like him and can't say he did anything more than vent and create a little online discussion about how we all have to be better at handling frustration. I like Bobby, and have found him to be quite personable when I've talked with him.

Watched another show today and when they put the rules up it said 12 inch minimum size.   Guess as long as you don't keep them there is no problem.

djkimmel

I hope they're going by local laws? I don't have access to any of the cable fishing shows so I'm not seeing anything. They could conceivably go by something other than local rules but I'm not sure it sends a good message overall? What does everyone else think?

I can't afford to break gear on purpose. If I could, I probably still wouldn't. I usually get attached to my gear, comfortable, my precious... I want to keep using it. I break enough gear on 'accident' without needing to breaking it on purpose. I would probably just say some made up swear word like 'dingady-dangit' or 'mother knuckles,' and then try to move on. Because there's always another event.

Well, there used to be always another event. Now, I'm mostly just fishing when I can however I want, even if what I feel like doing isn't the 'best' thing to be doing that day. If I want to throw a buzzbait all day... dingady-dangit! I can throw a buzzbait all day... :)

PS: I thought I heard MLF is owned by a larger group of the anglers - shares or something? I also thought they were including more anglers in the past from all of the circuits - part of the idea of it? Maybe I'm confusing some of my memories with the TTBC and other events?

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I thought it was a bit strange that they were allowing 12 inch fish to count towards their total. But since it is catch and release, it doesn't matter. With their unique format, like who can catch 40lbs the fastest, they must have thought the smaller fish would be important.

I agree with Tbone... Since they never put any fish in their livewell, They could count any size bass they want...  ;)

Regarding the breaking poles issue - remember guys, this is TV. The producers like to see that and develop rules to purposely frustrate the anglers to get the reactions that make for a more interesting show. Seeing the boys get "time outs" are all just elements to add a bit of drama to a TV show. Plenty of what your seeing is edited to make for some drama if it doesn't naturally happen. It's not all reality!

Major League Fishing to be based in TulsaPosted by Jeff Narron on August 8, 2011
Tournaments will be televised and aimed at a wide audience.

If it worked for professional poker, it could work for professional bass fishing.

The Outdoor Channel and a group of 24 top anglers announced Thursday they have formed Major League Fishing, an organization owned jointly by the cable television company and the anglers. The organization will be Tulsa-based with Winnercom producing the shows.

Yeah... that's what I thought. It is owned by a bunch of them, including Kevin VanDam. When I have watched it, I enjoy watching some of the owners/creators complaining about the rules 'these guys' have created to make things frustrating... knowing the person complaining is one of 'these guys.' !! ;D

Maybe they have an independent party make the rules and a majority vote or something publishes it? They appear to be doing it in a way that allows there to be some drama, excitement and surprise however they're doing it.

I keep forgetting to ask any of them how that works... but it could well already be somewhere else on the Internet? I haven't done any homework on this to find out.

Watched the finals this afternoon.  Man did KVD blow them all away.

I thought that Shaw was going to catch him there for awhile.  But wow, KVD got over 80#s.  Amazing.

I was impressed with Shaw's sportsmanship as he lost two 5# fish.  Truly a classy guy.

So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

Called the GEICO Selects, the new events will be filmed this year and televised early in 2015. Prior to their television run, the two events – the Summit Select and the Challenge Select – will be aired as extended-coverage, web-based broadcasts.
The new MLF anglers are: Scott Ashmore, Brent Chapman, Jason Christie, Keith Combs, Ott DeFoe, Kurt Dove, Paul Elias, Todd Faircloth, Randy Howell, Andy Montgomery, Cliff Pace, Brandon Palaniuk, Keith Poche, Marty Robinson, Mark Rose, Casey Scanlon, Morizo Shimizu, Kevin Short, Fletcher Shryock, Michael Simonton, Scott Suggs, Gerald Swindle, James Watson

Interesting group.  A lot of the big names are missing,  KVD, Biffle, Klein, Ike,Skeet.

Who is James Watson.

At least it is something to watch on TV after shoveling snow.

Dan

KVD and the original 24 are going to still be involved this is just the new group. I believe James Watson is a FLW angler. I believe he has a win on Table Rock.
