2.0 Owner thin wire EWG is my drop shot hook. Tried a lot of other drop shot hooks and was losing to many fish.    Falcon weighted hook for wacky rig.

Some day I will learn to Texas Rig.  Probably not.

I'm with you there
You need to try the Gam. deep throat hooks it's a much longer point section that hooks deeper than their standard EWG hook

I'm not a fan of any hook that the point is angled down towards the hook tie eye. I prefer round bend hooks that are sharp.  ;D  When I was making/selling thousands of jigs and switched to this style of hooks, I was getting many complaints from customers of missed and or lost fish compared to the round bends of the same size. It wasn't just me or my friends that noticed the difference. I prefer to also use the biggest size hook that a bait can "get a way with"...  ;D

I like fast boats and fishing.. I can do both the same day.

I like 2 ot and 3 ot hooks. Large hooks  brake more often, smaller wire works best  in my opinion. I use Gam's or bass pro made by Gam. They come vary sharp and stay sharp. I use 8lb line and have not bent a hook straight yet.I like angled hooks when I fish tubs

Mike,

The hooks that point towards the eye. I myself think of them as G locks
And yes, I don't like them on a jig
There's very few jigs sold with EWG's, They work as well if not better then round bends
But most of my jigs are round bends

I'm with you
3/0 seems to be about perfect for most rigging. no need for the heavey superline hooks in Michigan
Gam's aren't the cheapest hook out there. But it's all I buy for plain hooks

Good discussion.  It's all about confidence and what works for you.  Everyone fishes different.  I make my own jigs since the jig I used to use went out of production.  I bought a mold and with a dremmel tool I copied the old jig.  Took a while to find the right hook for it. Now I have 100% confidence in it.

36 years of crash testing cars taught me to keep working on something until you get it right.

For me it depends on the situation.  If I'm texas rigging a plastic bait and CASTING I use EWG but I put a little twist in them so the hook point is off center from the tie eye.  If I'm pitching or flipping I use a straight shank flippin hook.
Addicted to fishing.  All the time, any species, anywhere!!  Especially in West Michigan!!!

Don I've used mostly EWG thru the years. Recently, have been playing with straight shank. Have not switched over yet. I like the EWG because it will lay nicely in the groove of a beaver.
