Whats going on at the Mile Roads?  Anyone out this past weekend?  Are smallies still spawning?

It was slow there for me Sunday morning...but what I did catch was all over 3 and a half pounds......I only caught 10 or so in 3 hours...I had to work hard for them....
I ran up to Anchor bay and there wasn't even room from the base to the launch to squeeze in so I hit up couple of other areas...only a couple of line squeekers...
I skirted around the flotilla in Anchor Bay for awhile to see if there was much action..over 30 minutes I never saw a fish caught but I would assume they were there for a reason....

First time I have had the boat out this year and everything worked great so the day was a success as far as I was concerned...

In my opinion, The bulk spawn has not even happened or may not even happen at all... 4 lakes that I have fished for near 30 years I have patterned spawning temps, locations, depths etc... All 4 of them have only seen 5% spawn.... No evidence of early or post spawn beds... This is not normal..  I hope they get the other 95% spawned on the next moon phase...

I like fast boats and fishing.. I can do both the same day.

That's interesting... I've heard from people who are catching lots of bass off beds on St. Clair and have been for maybe more than 2 weeks. I've also heard some surprising stories about heavy spawns, including pretty early maybe for what the cold winter would have us expect, on many inland lakes scattered around the state.

It may be some lake types or areas are being affected quite differently than others?

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Not to change the subject but I have been hearing that they are killing them up on Charlevoix and around Traverse City....Just another week or so and I will be up there....Believe it or not I am a little worried I may be late but things should still be good on the East Bay...

Fish on Charlevoix last year didn't start moving up on the main lake until the 10th....Then all heck broke loose...

The fish that I caught Sunday on LSC weren't beat up like they had been bedding......I am sure that on most of the lakes the Bass are in all stages of Spawn, Pre and Post...That is what makes this time of year a blast...

I was out Sunday as well.  I caught maybe 12 or so.  All were good fish in the 3 to 3.5lb range.  As did motocross269, I had to work for the bites.  I was fishing out deeper than most and had areas out deep all to myself.  I feel that a lot of fish are spawning out deeper this year or the fish that usually spawn deeper later in the season are spawning now and the shallow spawners haven't been on beds yet.  I had heard that there was some action up in the Selfridge area but didn't venture up there.  I ended up heading more south and did alright.

For me, mile roads have been slow the past two seasons. Windmill point area has been more productive.

I was out on Sunday also. Selfridge, north of the launch, was on fire for largemouth and musky. Only picked up 1 smallmouth, but it was the best bass of the day. Almost had the entire area to myself. I was surprised. That same area has been great for me ever since the opener this year. Weeds were much more prevalent up there than the same time last year. Late April, early May, we were getting smallmouth there. Now that the weeds are up, pike, musky, and largemouth are everywhere.

While we're on the topic of fishing up-north, I hit Grand Lake in Alpena over Memorial Day weekend. Black bass bay was going nuts with smallmouth. DNR stopped me for a routine check and he mentioned reports of slower than normal fishing this year. Not sure who he had been talking with but we had nothing but good times on our trip...

I don't know what time you were down there but I was there for a couple of hours running and gunning the area.  Also fished several other spots up to the 9 mile tower.  I actually started my day there.

Last time I was down there was on 5/18. Only picked up 9 in 4 hours of hard work. Place was jammed with boats. This past Sunday I got a late start and stuck to Selfridge the entire time. In 3 hours of fishing I boated 36. Seems like a good trade-off to me  ;)

Those mile road launches get filled up so early this time of year on the weekend. I hate driving all the way and then have to drive back up to Harley Ensign. Still have to muster up the courage to launch at St Jean's. Area seems questionable at best.

I launched at St. Jeans today and had no problems.  Cept for the fact that their docks are almost non-existent.

Caught a few fish in the southern part of the lake but not enough to drive down from any of the northern launches.

So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.
