Where the heck were they?  We fished shallow, medium, and deep from the point to gpyc with limited success.

Selfridge was okay, nothing big though. After being covered head-to-toe in mayflies for 3 hours I called it quits.

I'd always wanted to be on LSC for the mayfly hatch.  I take that sentiment back. I never want to see that ever, EVER again. Bob o and I launched from Selfridge and motor out to some middle of nowhere place and they were thick as fog.  Middle of nowhere.  Oddly enough, the closer inland we got, the fewer flies there were.

Apparently they were hitting up at the mile roads, but not anything we were chucking in 6-8 FOW.  Ended up going into some cove or another for largemouth on bullet craws.

Ya I was a tough bite for us yesterday in the main lake too... One of my buddies had 14.6lb of pure largies out by 13 mile I think fishing the main lake. We got 12.2lb in the metro park backwaters and a marina...frogs and jigs. Almost every blow up they would hit again fun!

Hollada

They are out there somewhere as mini took the cfb with something around 21lbs.  Tough lake to figure out during transition.

Read back over the years and you will find the same topic.  in the spring everyone is catching tons of fish.  Then the reports switch to " Where did they go ".

Hollada

So what is the "mental model" to apply when the fish disappear?  Is there a pattern to finding fish or rules of thumb that can be applied year over year or is it different every year and the only solution is time on the water?

Not sure anything beats time on the water. Unless.you have really good friends.   If it was easy everyone would be doing it.

Anybody been over in the channels? That side of the Lake?

It was terrible for us yesterday.  Fish were very scattered, no groups of fish.  They mostly wanted to eat mayflies.  Fished from 2 FOW (desperate) to 16 FOW.  Found fished in all depths, best group in 11 - 13 fow, but it seemed that if you caught 1, you may as well crank up and move to a new spot.  Had maybe 11 lbs for the day.

No idea what I am doing on Saturday for the BFL.

I don't fish LSC to much
But here's my thoughts, This year were behind
The fish aren't schooled up yet, Were still just getting over post spawn

Give it a week or 2 and they should be in Michigan water in the 14 fow on the typ. spots
Right now, I'd guess there's fish feeding on the blue gill spawn, May flies and others chasing shad
With very few schooled up. So it's hit or miss just need to cover more water

Jeff - you ain't kidding.

We got into around 35 today though.  Will see how my first bfl (co) goes tomorrow.  I drew a boater from ohio that has never fished the lake before today.  Not looking good for the home team..

Came back last week and fishing slow and whooooose fishing which I hate ??? Senko's very light lead, and tubes in 8-10 foot. That SUCK'S  Where the Hey are the fish and #'s. Looked at the BFL number's and some of you guys know where they are staying :D Sorry Mojo we did not hook up ???

Guys if you fishing during the hatch try a spy bait. They been doing very well during the hatches.

Hollada

Those spy baits really need 4# test fluoro to work right?  How about 20# braid and a fluoro leader?

Very expensive bait with little propellers on it.  The Pike love them.
