hello everyone
most of the time i am pretty quiet about things but i think that we all can make a difference here. it has been brought to my knowledge that a number of people are boycotting the gas companies on may 15th by not buying gas. its not that i think they will miss the money for one day of gas sales, but more than that it will send a message to the companies to say WE CAN ASSEMBLE AGAINST YOU, WE CAN MAKE IT HARD FOR YOU,YOU DO NOT HAVE CONTROL OF US. and why not because these are the exact same things we have heard from them in these last few years. its not the money ITS THE MESSSAGE. i love to fish, i would rather do that than anything in the world, but it makes it kind of hard when it cost me over 200 dollars to fill my truck and boat, and i know this isnt even a fraction of what some of you pay. so for me and for every other hard workin, underpaid american out there dont buy gas on may 15th ALL U HAVE TO DO IS NOTHING AND THIS WORKS!!!

I am participating too... the thing is does it matter if you dont buy on the 15th?  I'll probably be buying gas on the 14th or 16th right?  :-\'

I think anything that we do will help. I also thought of boycoting a certain brand for a month, then a differant brand for a month. We need to take a stand, somthing needs to be done.

The only gas I buy is BP and occassionally Shell, because I believe there is a higher quality there.  Anyone know anything about this?

I go this same thing in a chain email.  I wasnt going to participate, but if it appears that alot of people are doing it I will also.  I bought a motorcycle to commute though.  It only cost me 8 dollars every 12 days!  I will however, do my part.

It kinda funny how gas will go up $.25 - $.40 but will only go down $.10.... ??? ???  Filled the boat and truck up this weekend and I am broke.. Hey atleast I can fish for the week..

Langer

This why I dont think it will work, basically what Bshaner was getting at.

Lets say the total impact from boycotting for a day was 10 billion dollars, the 10 billion dollars missed due to the one-day consumer boycott wouldn't hurt the oil companies one bit. Think about it. Every single American who doesn't buy gas on Tuesday is still going to have to fill up their tank on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, making up for Tuesday's losses. Sales for the whole week would be normal, or very close to it.

Really the only meaningful boycott would entail participants actually consuming less fuel -- and doing so in a sustained, disciplined fashion over a defined period of time -- not just choosing to wait a day or two before filling up as usual.

Dang, I wish I could fish for a week on one fill up.  Out here on St. Clair I get about 2 days if I'm lucky.  >:(

I do not want to de-rail Outlaw because I whole heartedly agree that we as consumers need to take some kind of stand on this.  However, Langer is correct - that's what I was getting at.

We should try to car pool to tournaments and put hitches on the back end of trailers to pull 2 boats at once!   :P :o

Car pooling is definately the answer.  If you can afford it, trading in that gas guzzler if you have one for a low budget high fuel economy work vehicle.

Employers shifting work schedules to 4 / 10 hour shift work weeks.

Riding a bicycle to work or motorcycle.

Not making those long runs on the lake but fishing closer to the launch...  use your electric motor more.

Directors planning their launches in more central locations so as not to force anglers to make long runs..

Commuting to work by bus..

Just some things that come to mind if you really want to cut down on fuel consumption...

Keeping your speed down when practice fishing saves lots of gas as well.

$3.49 a gallon?? YIKES! I will need to start having my checks direct deposited in the United Bank of Speedway. So whens it going to hit $4.00?? Memorial Day weekend??

bshaner

Just heard on the news that we are in the top 2 or 3 in the nation.

My guess is memorial weekend through the 4th of July gas will be over 4, simply because we do the most traveling in that time frame, and honestly is it going to make anyone stay home?  People will still buy it, no matter how much they charge. >:(

It is making me seriously consider staying home memorial day weekend.  I was going to go up and pre-fish Burt and Mullet and fish a tourney on Long lake.  But with gas so high it is cheaper for me to take an extra day off the week before the tourney.  I will be up there anyway and it will be closer to tournament time.  My gas bill has been averaging almost 400 dollars a month.  I have been trying to come up with ways to save.  I have started car pooling with my co-workers and I am trying every way I can think of to save a gallon here or there.
I was going to go back up to Long Lake and do some fishing 4th of July weekend.  I will probably cancel that trip too and concentrate on LSC BFL and the TBF fish off that week.  That is probably what I should do anyway.
In a nutshell yes it is effecting my lifestyle and I am making adjustments.  The BIG OIL companies will win with the current government, but at least I can try to stop the bleeding a little bit. I need to invent a mini do-it yourself refinery that is cost effective.  Use french fry oil or something like that those college kids bus runs on.

My wife and I spend about 1000.00 in gas per month to include recreation on the weekends.  She works in Lansing, I work in Battle Creek and we live in Jackson.  After taking a hard look and realizing that gas prices are not going to go down we've decided she'd be better off getting a job in BC and us moving to that area.  Gas money savings alone would cover a nice house payment.

Amazing how one single thing in life forces you to make those kinds of decisions.

I've decided the same thing as you Moto..  I was going to pre-fish 3 weekends up at Burt Mullet but it's just not worth it.  I'm taking an extra day and going to practice the 3 days prior to the TX.  Decided my money would be better spent practicing Erie and Clair since the majority of the TX's are there and it's an hour or so drive as opposed to 3.5 hours up north.  So I'll see you up there that week!  :)

3.49 for the cheap stuff, which means 3.69 for the boat. :o >:( :'(  When is this madness going to stop????  Am I going to have to figure a way to tow the boat with a scooter now or something???  This is ridiculous.  I seriously am going to be in financial hell soon if gas goes up much more, especially with fishing.  I already work a second job as much as possible to pay for fishing, I may have to do it now just to put food on the table.  Makes you want to cry, commit murder, and crawl in a hole somewhere all at the same time.  What has the world come to that gas can go down 3 cents through the week and then jump 18 cents before the weekend, go down 3 cents the next week and jump again!!!!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

BigSmallie

Well..........I didn't purchase gas on May 15th.    Did we all bankrupt the gas companies???  ::)

Looks like they did a little "retaliation" of their own................$3.49 a gallon......since no one was purchasing gas, they needed to increase the cost.

Crooked Bbehindt**ds.    They should all be hung from their wallets!
