Mike,

I kind of agree with you
I've tried allot of different DS rigs and line

And while I don't really see a diff. in the bit with diff line or extra hardware
There's a huge diff. in the feel
Fluoro is the best feel, It's just a pain in the ass and doesn't last long on a spinning reel
(for a all Fluoro rig I'm going with a bait caster, better line management and it's lighter)
Braid with a Fluoro leader works, But there's a knot
And Coploymer works, It's a so so spongy feel over the other

As far as the hardware
Less would be the best, I've never seen it hurt the bite
If they chould make out a swivel, they could also make a hook
And there not that smart

But I still like Fluoro to just a hook
If any thing its just the confidence that i've eliminated as much as I can.

I typically run about a 12 ft leader of 8lb fluoro with a uni uni knot to 10lb power pro  then tie on the swivel shot and use 6 to 24 inches of 6lb for the weight leader depending on what's working.

Hollada,

What's the reasoning with the 6# drop
Vs. just useing all 8# Fluoro

Probably to only break off the bottom if the weight snags up in the rocks... That's why others do it.

My invisiswivels will be here this week along with some new braid and flouro. I hope to test it out this coming weekend.

It's important that you match the diameter of the braid to the floro when using the uni-uni knot.  10 lb braid is pretty thin...

And I really don't like 10 lb braid... it wind knots around the rod tip a lot easier than even 15 lb braid will.  Most of my finess set ups are 15 lb Power Pro and either 8 or 10 lb P-Line.  The diameters of these lines match up pretty decent.

Manx- to only lose the sinker if I get snagged up   The BFL that I fished the lower Detroit river I lost about 6 sinkers to rock snags and no hooks.  For the price of the gammy swivel shots, I'll give up a sinker to save the hook!

Waterfowl you are right about the diameter.  I think I have 20# power pro on there and not 10.

I have been using the #1 mosquito hooks with great success on #8 Seaguar red lable line floro. You can get a 46 pack of hooks for $11

I just re spooled 2 spinning reels with Power Pro Super Slick 20lb braid and going to use SunLine Sniper 8lb as a leader. My invisi-swivels will be here today, So hopefully I can try this combo out....

Likes and dislikes of this braid?

I have it on one spinning reel this season.  So far, I have no complaints.  It seems a bit stiffer right out of the box but once it's broken in it seems fine to me.

***UPDATE***

I really like these plastic swivels.... But what a pain it is to thread the line through the tiny holes with my old eyes..  ::) The 12lb swivel barely let the 20 lb braid = 6lb mono diameter fit. Same for the 8 lb sniper.  :o

I rigged 2 rods up like this and hope to field test this weekend.  :)

I have been wearing progressive lenses for a few years... I don't wear them much, But I should. I don't like them, but didn't want tri-focals.  ::)

Sounds like we need a Drop Shot only outing.  Did one on Cass a couple years ago.

My new set up worked flawlessly...  ;D

Did pretty good on a drop shot, 3 inch wacky sinko copy in green pumpkin... We had doubles once and I had Jesse hold my bigger fish.

Big dreams

I just picked up a small pack of #1 Gammies from Gander Mountain on Saturday.  I tried it on Sunday to see if there was any difference between hook ups using Gammie or Owner.  The Gammie hook broke in two when I pulled it out of a small brush pile.  The line wasn't even close to breaking, but the hook broke right off.  I was surprised by this.  I guess I will stick with Owner hooks for now.

Waterfoul

I had my first Owner hook break a couple weeks ago... BUT, I had just landed a very large pike (in the 35" range) on it and had to work the hook out of it's beak.  I'm thinking I probably put a crack in the hook with the plyers.    Dang pike!
