Though passing the Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act in August has made the upcoming state vote ineffective legally, we still have to vote on Proposals 1 and 2 in the statewide Michigan vote Tuesday, November 4, 2014.

Vote YES on Proposals 1 and 2!

I'm urging you to Vote Yes on Proposals 1 and 2, and please tell your friends and family to Vote YES! Yes votes KEEP the existing laws in place and defeat the efforts of the humane society of the United States (hsus) to get any kind of victory out of their continuing huge effort to take away our hunting and fishing rights.

Way back in 1922 Michigan hunters and anglers were smart enough to know we would need to keep the emotions out of the management of our natural resources. They created the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) to protect our fish and wildlife recognizing that hunters and anglers pay for the management, and are the best management tool and resource stewards because of our deep care for the fish and wildlife we seek.

In 1996 63% of Michiganders tried to get scientific management working fully through the NRC while stopping another attempt by groups and people like the hsus from chipping away at our outdoor activities by passing Proposal G. The past 2 years we've finally set up the best method to manage both fish and wildlife through the NRC but hsus wants to destroy all that while confusing people that this is about killing wolves.

Proposals 1 and 2 are the direct result of a lot of money poured into Michigan by hsus and anti-hunting, anti-fishing partners - radical animal rights groups and people, and sympathizers. They've done a good job confusing people enough to force us to use our Michigan Constitutional rights to stop them.

Voting YES on both Proposals 1 and 2 are votes FOR hunting and fishing, for scientific management through the NRC not through confusing publicity campaigns and purchased referendum petition drives we would face over and over otherwise. hsus is able to raise a large amount of money because so many people think they are donating to their local humane societies when they give to hsus but hsus is NOT a humane society. They are not affiliated in any way. Their money goes towards radical animal rights movements, and efforts to stop all hunting and fishing.

Vote YES on Proposals 1 and 2! Pass it on and share it with everyone you know. The truth is better for our bass!

Still seeing lots of people talking about this as if both proposals are only about wolves. H$U$ must be happy as can be still raising money from people who don't know any better off an issue they've already lost! They're misleading people into thinking they can still do something about it. We're told they're going to go after bears again in Michigan too like they did to cause Proposal G in 1996.

I do not understand why any mainstream media and more people do not see that there move is actually going to make it easier for H$U$ and other anti-hunters, anti-anglers to attack all hunting and fishing through similar misleading campaigns. H$U$ has done a great job fooling lots of people into thinking their rights to vote are somehow threatened by us 'evil' hunters and anglers.

We all need to convince everyone we know that H$U$ is not a humane society, they have already lost on wolf management and scientific management and all they are really doing is trying to keep people confused about the issue so they can raise more money to raise more money to keep attacking pet ownership, hunting and fishing. They don't save animals. They wreck natural resources, and fish and wildlife management.

Waterfoul

Sad that people don't get themselves informed on the proposals.  Most simply read the first sentence and make a quick decision.  Not my friend and family!  I've been all over them about this!
Addicted to fishing.  All the time, any species, anywhere!!  Especially in West Michigan!!!

Mojo

Man I have done some research on this group, they don't really care if they win or lose  99% of their money raised goes to their salary and pensions. 1 % goes to animal shelters. They win whether they pass a law or not. Maine is currently in a huge fight over bait bears.

Thanks Dan for bringing year round Catch and Release to Michigan

You've both nailed it! The ONLY reason H$U$ is still acting like they have a chance is because they can raise more money off of people who have NO idea where there money is going... as long as they can raise more money they will hang out like a bad penny (with a runny nose...)

The only hope we have is to educate more Michiganders that H$U$ is NOT a humane society. They don't run animal shelters. The majority of the money they raise goes towards raising more money, and their full agenda is ending all pet ownership, ending all hunting and ending all fishing.

H$U$ is bad for Michigan period and they take peoples' money under horrible false pretenses. I hope more states and more charity groups issue donation advisories against them. I really don't see how they can keep their tax exempt status? They brag about all their lobbying success and yet they keep their tax exempt status.

They are losing some of their government champions. Maybe that will get them down the road towards what they should be labeled as - a for profit radical animal rights group willing to do just about anything to get peoples' money and advance their radical, unrealistic and hypocritical agenda.

Vote YES on Proposals 1 and 2. You'll be doing a LOT more for Michigan wolves than what H$U$ wants to see happen.

The H$U$ Maine bear baiting attack is a good example of how they operate. They choose a type of hunting they can convince potential donors is barbaric - thrill killing 'for sport.' They paint the picture as inaccurate as necessary to portray hunters as negatively as necessary. They find someone who says I'm a hunter and I think bear baiting is unsportsmanlike... (it may not be a real hunter... or it may be because a few 'hunters' and 'anglers' are actually dumb enough to think it's okay to go along with radicals like H$U$ because they don't like the way you or I hunt or fish anyway...).

They find any sympathetic media and get them to help feeding them whatever fertilizer they will accept. They feed them nothing that resembles the truth. They do the same with sympathetic elected officials feeding them whatever fertilizer they will accept. They claim the DNR lies and misleads the public because they cater to hunters.

H$U$ lies and misleads the public about all of this so they can raise as much money from people who have no real idea what their money is going to, though some are also anti-hunters and go along with H$U$ anyway (while they eat food every day that was alive before they had it killed so they can eat it...).

But many are pet owners who believe they are not anti-hunters themselves. They just don't know that H$U$ doesn't protect animals, doesn't run shelters, doesn't help animals, doesn't give most of their money to real humane societies or shelters (which they have NO affiliation with) and actually wants to end pet ownership while assigning equal rights to animals, plants and bugs as humans have. If you support H$U$ in any way you are supporting a radical animal rights, anti-hunting, anti-fishing agenda. There is no gray area for these people.

But of course the 'good' citizens who fall for the H$U$ line of crap want to feel they are doing good while giving away their money so they go along with the line that bear hunting over bait is unnecessary, barbaric and non-sporting - unfair to the bears... it must be because H$U$ says it is, and H$U$ saves puppies and kitties, right? Not. H$U$ raises money. H$U$ wants to give equal rights to all other living things and let them go to fend for themselves (sure, that will work...).

What H$U$ really wants is 1) to raise lots of money so they can raise more money through false marketing (whatever it takes), so they can pay lots of people more than $100,000 per year, so they can put a lot of money into their pension funds, so they can pay off their multi-million dollar lawsuits they lose, so they can give a measly 1% to animal shelters to pretend they are actually a humane society, so they can sue people into silence, pay off people who will makes claims at trials that support their radical agenda (and get fined when caught); 2) to end the most effective bear hunting method in Maine so a lot less bear are hunted each year (they will say they don't mind professional shooters and the government shooting problem bears though they question if that really exists) so they can brag how many bear's lives they saved (to raise more money 'Save the Bears!!!'); 3) they can put a serious dent in the Maine DNR budget because they know most DNR budgets to manage states' natural resources are funded by hunting and fishing licenses, and other user fees, not tax dollars - definitely not H$U$ dollars! - If they silence the DNR, hamper their ability to gather data on populations, health and management factors it becomes much easier for H$U$ to publicly claim everything the DNR says is false, a lie, not true, inaccurate so you can't act on it, etc., etc. all the while they claim their 'scientists' are the only ones who really know what the bears need.

I've seen and heard these wackos testify enough times I could easily give one of their war cry speeches by just swapping out the animal or fish name and changing a few locations or entity mentions... They repeat the same meaningless but 'troubling' statements over and over so lazy and sympathetic news and elected officials can pick up on it and think it must be true even if in the end they realize there were no actual facts...

While the other side - the DNRs and us - the hunters and anglers who are the only ones who have funded the majority of natural resources management for 100 years or more because we truly care about them give out piles of detailed, complex facts collected through recognized and accepted, even common, scientific method and H$U$ claims it is all lies because we just want to have more targets or victims to brutally kill even though all real hunters and anglers know only a small part, if any, of hunting and fishing involves 'killing.'

Hunters and anglers have been the true stewards of fish, wildlife and natural resources for over 100 years but H$U$ wants to get rid of us and the DNRs so the other living creatures can be left alone to live their lives in peace and harmony. Well peace and harmony outside of the increased vehicle-animal accidents that will occur; increased starvation when adaptable animals do too well; increased human-animal interactions that don't go well with the animals because people like farmers, ranchers and even city dwellers (ask generally anti-hunting Ann Arbor citizens how they fell about deer now that they're eating their expensive gardens...) will be shooting them now instead (though not in enough numbers or properly managed) due to crop damage, predation, fear, lack of understanding; incidents of disease that often come from uncontrolled populations; and population unbalance because some animals will do too good on their own while others will not do well at all on their own because they have not adapted to our human world...

That is the reality of the world that H$U$ supporters and sympathizers pretend is not there so they can go on day after day thinking that all other living creatures can just be left alone, and things will be okay. I haven't even remotely figured out yet what we're all supposed to eat in their world since pretty much everything we eat every day came from something that was alive before someone else killed it so we could eat and live...?? Maybe H$U$ does not want bacteria and viruses to have equal rights? How much food can we make only out of those??

Maybe in order to be an H$U$ member you also have to be one of those people who thinks we need to get rid of 6.5 billion people so the world can 'support' us? I've always wondered will all those people still support 'the plan' if they find out they are NOT on the 'get to stay list'...?!? "Uh oh... so sorry but you are not on the 500 million list... but thank you for your sacrifice BANG!" Actually, I think I heard there is a 500 thousand group!?! There's some poor odds that any of us will be on the list... I have not signed up for either plan.

Meanwhile... I like to be alive and I don't pretend other animals and plants don't die every day to keep me alive. Sometimes I even want to give the people who harvest and kill all that food for me a break and harvest my own. (That's why I privately call them the 'hypocrite society of the United States' - they're all apparently alive so I KNOW other living beings have to die every day to keep them that way, yet they tell people they believe every other living thing has the same rights as them including the right to be 'left alone.' If you really believe that shouldn't you stop eating??)
