Hello,

I have been saving my pennies for a talon. I was just curious how effective one talon is. I have a triton 186. Is having 1 talon going to make a huge difference or should I just wait until I can afford two?

6 lb Smallmouth

I can give you some feedback since I have been out twice since I installed my Talon over the winter.

I can definitely attribute the Talon to helping me catch more fish both times I was out.  In the breeze my 17' tin gets pushed around quite easily.  I will rarely stay glued to a spot in the wind with the trolling motor.  However, with the Talon I will thoroughly work the area before moving.  Both times out in breezy conditions with heavy fishing pressure, I would lock the boat down, let guys move around me, and thoroughly work the spot.  Both times out I caught fish after I would have moved from the spot if I was on the trolling motor only.

The drawback to the 1 Talon is that your boat will rotate to get the bow pointed downwind.  You can adjust for this and anticipate where your bow will be.  The other drawbacks so far is that it's louder than I thought, it makes some noise from the plastic housing when waves move the boat, and the ridiculous cost for brackets and locks.

So to answer your question, I would buy 1 while waiting and saving to buy a 2nd.  I can see that it is going to change my fishing.  And I think it will help guys with boats like me even more since boat positioning is more of a challenge than glass boat owners.  Good fishing.
