Anybody know where to get the Berkley gulp leech? I would like to try some next week. I'll be calling Jays, and already tried D&R on the phone. D&R said they didn't have it. Guess I'll have to look online.

The tackle shop close to the Detroit Erie Metropark has them. Thats down on Jefferson up the road from Elizabeth Park. At least they did Friday when I was there.

dartag

not sure where you are at but Holdens party store on Milford road across the street from the Kensington park entrance has them  he is getting a good selection of Gulp products. he has Leeches and Gobies now.    he also has a good selection of Yamamoto products.

Dan,

I have looked around GR for the Gulp leach and have not been able to find any either.  I think the web will be your best bet.

I was at Cabela's a week ago and they had every gulp product in just about every color (including the leeches).

FYI if you haven't used them, get more than you think you need.  They are great baits, just don't stay on the hook great if your casting them far.  They now also have the gulp alive leeches, bought some just haven't tried them yet (they come packaged in a jar of scent rather than a bag).  jannsnetcraft.com out of toledo has all the gulp you'll need and they get their orders out the same day in my experience, so it will be faster than some of the bigger outfits.  Some meijers and walmarts will have the leeches just varies by location.

Thanks guys. I don't know why but no one around the Grand Rapids area seems to carry them and I have been reading a lot about them. Did you guys see that Jon Bondy was a top five in the Toho Event that finished yesterday in the BASS Elite Series.

Matt's right, they don't stay on the hook very well.  A little trick I use is to punch out holes from a milk jug with a hole puncher.  Keep them in a film canister.  Use the punched out holes as a keeper.  Put one on the hook after you put the Gulp on and you'll lose a whole lot less Gulp.  It'll save you $$.  Just use pliers to do it so you don't hook yourself if the keeper slips as you're trying to get it on the hook.  They can be removed easily with pliers also, or just clip them off.  Or even leave them on the hook...it doesn't hinder anything until you get 4 or 5 of them on there.  Plus you can paint the plastic red or black or whatever you want before you punch out the holes to either match the bait or provide a dark spot (eye) to add extra attraction.  This is a variation on a little trick Mark Menendez uses for keeping trailer hooks on his spinnerbaits.  It works great for that too.

i have been threading the 3" fry on a 2.0 drop shot hook. ( i hate small hooks ) since i am only catching cass lake specials 1.5-2 lb fish they have a hard time throwing them off.  be interesting to see how the big fish on st-clair treat them this weekend.  cost about the same as a bag of senkos but you get 12 of them.

Dartag,
I know a good trick for you. Instead of buying the 3" fry buy the 6" night crawler and cut them in half. 2 baits for the same price.

HMMMMM  wonder if that would work???.
i have heard people do that with other types of baits. i am sure the fish are too smart to fall for that.....
