so its looking like my 2002 3/bank Triton charger maybe causing my battery problems, okay 14 years old and a beating on the waters, maybe its time.

I've warranty replaced two cabela's AGM's ( trolling mtr ) over the past two years.  toward the end of the season I'd hit the water and be like on low juice right from the get go even though the charger indicated green, charged and when pulling for the winter there was a white powder from one of them ( again trolling mtr ).

so the $64 question, ( okay so they cost more then that ) go "on board" or like more are doing go with an "external" ? and what brand ? what model ?

my fishing is down to maybe once or twice a week in the summer, two to three road trips involving 3 - 5 days on the water.  maybe once or twice in april and again in may.   2 - 3 times in oct, once or twice in nov.

minn kota 74lb thrust.

I'd be looking at one of the Noco Genious onboard chagers.

External chargers are a pain in the butt for use on boats.  And try finding one that will charge more than one battery at a time.

Addicted to fishing.  All the time, any species, anywhere!!  Especially in West Michigan!!!

I know some guys that are on the trolling motors hard that use the Lester charging system..(External).....That is the way I would go if I was traveling alot and super serious about it......The Lester will charge 24 or 36 volt systems....It is pricy at 400 bucks..It is considered the best...It will charge AGM batteries...

I have gone through 2 Noco Genius charges since 2011 in my Bass Cat......I took the brand new one that I now have and stuck it in the basement to put on when I sell the rig.....The Noco that is in my boat now will only charge two batteries so I use an External to ensure that the cranking battery is fully charged when I take off in the morning...

I think running on the rough water just beats the crap out of them and they just don't hold up...

To me off board charging is a pain.

I replaced the original charger on my Ranger with a BPS 5,5,5 amp onboard charger.  Charges my 3 Deka batteries overnight.   Anyone that fishes with me knows I am on the trolling motor all day.  I don't sit in one place very long.   Never had it not charge them overnight.

Go with onboard. I've had good luck with Pro Mariner. Only one I've owned in years so I can't say much about the others at the moment without firsthand experience.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
