Hi all, just wondering what fellow mi bass fisherman do more of, or at all.Is it mostly a southern technique for large mouth, or do some of you use it, for small mouth also. Also what are using as far rods, line, weight of jigs, and so on.I fish mostly Lake St Clair for small mouth but also poke around for large mouth, and up north for large mouth.Got some money to spend on my drug of choice, bass tackle. Thanks in advance.

I pitch and flip a lot though I'd say I pitch 90+ percent of the time I'm doing it. I use a variety of rods for it because I even pitch to smallies especially while sightfishing with spinning rods too. It's just sometimes more efficient to pitch than it is to cast when the target is close, and accuracy and a quiet entry are important. I use 7 or 7 1/2 foot rods for it most of the time. I use Texas-rigged Bullet Craw a lot for pitching for largemouth bass, and sometimes smallmouth bass too.

I use plenty of other lures though including tubes. Whatever I think I need to present to catch a bass at the time. I match my line to the place and presentation so I pitch with anything from 8 lbs test HALO to high strength Spectrex IV braid too.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I don't pitch/flip much except for the spawn. After that most of my club fishes smallmouth waters and they aren't located to structure that makes this technique that valuable.
I'd like to really spend sometime pitching and flipping at Kent this year when the lake gets jammed with weeds (probably already is).
It looks like a bunch of fun and it would be a good lake to practice the technique. Seems like a 7-7.5 ft Heavy rod with heavy braid/floro is in order to yank them out of the stuff.

Generally - smallmouth aren't going to typically relate to the cover where this technique is going to play that much of a role.

I am hooked on it now.   Spent probably 12 hours last week Punching on Kent Lake.  65 lb line on a Flipping Stick   3/4 - 1 oz weight with a 5.0 Hook and different baits.   Punch it through and let it drop straight down.  Pull it up twice and do it again.  I watched a bunch of videos on it.   Some fish you feel bite and others they are just there.  You don't really have to set the hook just come back with pressure.   Did catch quite a few pike.   Great thing is you never know if it's a big fish or small.    Going to be something I will be doing all summer.

Sounds like you had a good time doing it. We kind of punched weeds for a few minutes the day we last fished Kent. Caught a few.

As far as pike you'd think they would avoid the heavy weeds so they can maneuver and ambush better but on Kent the pike seem to be everywhere. I even caught the big one in the slop last year at the frogs only event way up in the slop! Yikes.

A great place to pitch and Flip is the Martiny chain up by Clare/Evart.....Fletchers floodwaters is good also..

I suck at it so I'm not going to give any tips.....lol...

I did a lot of pitching yesterday and caught a few doing it. Lost a good one because I didn't set the hook right though. Got to keep practicing... ;D
