Who do you feel will protect the rights of Fisherman and Hunters as president?

I will be voting democratic in the elections, because I don't think my wallet can handle another 4 years of a republican white house..If I don't have a job I can't afford to fish..Plain and simple...
As far as who may have the best interest of fishing at heart..I Think Part of the problems that Mike Hukabee has been having with unclaimed contributions is all of the Free Bass Cats and Rangers he has been getting....Maybe they are just loners, but I saw a guy online that had one of his rigs and it was titled in his name..Not that I blame the guy or anything..I think he is by far the best Republican Candidate....

Here we go, Before we make claims like " a guy on line" Provide the proof of where you get your information. Hear say just doesn't cut it.

I really don't want this to turn into a Dem vs Rep debate at all - I wanted to just keep it to who would represent our special interest (fishing) the best.

That said....I am curious, why has the current administration been hard on your wallet?  For me, taxes have gone down (federal has gone down, state has gone up).  Outside the hole of SE Michigan, the national economy has been booming.  Unemployment is at or near record lows.  So my question would be, Do you think it is the regional economy or the national ecomonmy that has been hard on your wallet?

Durand Dan

Let's see, Energy costs have doubled, Food costs have doubled, wages are stagnant and housing market has seen double digit drops in new starts. It's not good anywhere in the US as I see it. I will vote for a Dem, just not sure who yet.

You need to listen to Clinton's plans. If she is in, today's cost of living will be dirt cheap.

I'm not endorsing either party, but Clinton sure has a plan to raise nearly all taxes.

The "Guy on Line" was on the Bass Cat website ..That is about all of the proof I have. It's really not that important to me so I am not going to do much more digging than that....So take it for what it is worth..
I don't discuss politics with friends..The only point I was trying to make is that Huckabee obviously likes to fish or he wouldn't be taking delivery of a Bass Cat..Makes sense to me, Arkansas Governer and both Bass Cat and Ranger are made where??? Arkansas..
As far as contribution alegations he does have a well documented history of taking gifts...All polititions do it he just keeps getting caught.

I work in the automotive industry so I don't think I need to explain how the current administration has been hard on my wallet..If you work in manufacturing..(except maybe a defense contractor) there is a good chance you have seen substantial cutbacks in the last 8 years..This region is not the only area being hit..Take a look at the foreclosure rates and the increasing number of american workers below the poverty line around the country..How many workers are working with no health care, No defined retirement plan, and no job security.
Bottom line is I am ready for a change....

Dan, Do you have a list of state and federal reps that have been in support of the Great lakes protection acts???  I am pretty much addressing the Bilge water discharge issues etc...
I did a google search and can't find much...
Thanks,

You didn't address this to me, motocross, but you might find the links on this post  helpful:
Election 08 for Anglers - The Environment.  I can, truthfully, say I've done my homework on this one and the only candidate in the race who has a strong, concrete position on water resources and Great Lakes water protections is Barack Obama.

He's got an entire section devoted to clean water on his Environmental Issues Statement and his voting records back it up.  He may not be a bass angler like Huckabee, but he's the real deal when it comes Great Lakes environmental issues.

I tend to be a real skeptic when it comes to politics but the more I look at his statements and positions, the more I see way more than just a smart, talented idealist.  There's some real concrete detail behind his positions on most of the issues.

geez,   remember in the old days when we talked politics.  we were trying to get Drop Shotting legal.

my nomination is for Ted Nugent for president.  heck maybe even vice president also.

got to admit them black and white Tiger Stripe Limos would look cool.

i think he even has a Skeeter bass boat.

I am sure the diversity of the group reading this board vary's some, but assuming you have the means to pursue the green and brown fish for recreational activity, I can assure you that the socialism that Clinton is pushing for will do nothing to put money back in your pocket.

Government provided health care?  Sounds Great!!!  But who pays for the government and who will pay the bills in the end?  In a country where the top business leaders and politicians work together to fill each others pockets without concern for the good of the country, I don't have much faith in any of the candidates.

But, I think between the democrates (Clinton, Barack and Giuliani) I would have to say Barack would be the 34%er while Hilary and Rudy would be tied at 33%.  (I know Rudy says he's a rep. but come on!  Who is he trying to fool?)

On the Rep side (which I will vote) I am undecided on Huckabee and Romney.  Huckabee is an avid bass fisherman that did buy his previous BassCat.  He was also on the Bassmaster - Arkansas River Major show.  While out jogging, he stopped to ask one of the fisherman (Scott Rook?) how he was doing.  I don't know much else about him other than he is not very strong against illegal immigration and therefore against border and Homeland security.

Romney seems to have very sound values, and has been very succesful in everything he has done.  He also seems to have common sense.

There is still 11 months to figure it out, so I am sure more information will become public before we have our say.
