If you had hammered to quality bass with some big ones like I did on the 17th on a small lake you'd probably be chomping at the bit to return like I was. The quickest I could get back to Round Lake was 5 days later on June 22nd (2016).

Anticipation was high for me as I putted out onto the lake with my little electric Minn Kota. I decided to go right to the big bass spot to see if they were there in the morning or maybe shallower even!?!

I started out working the edge of the drop off with the same KVD 1.5 green shad crankbait hoping to pick off a few nice ones cruising. I did get this small bass fairly quick but nothing much was happening like I hoped for.

I moved towards deeper water off the break and caught this keeper on the Bullet Craw near the edge of the drop on the way out. I was hoping it was a sign of things to come!

Unfortunately it was not to be as I worked and worked the deep water only to get bit off, catch a couple dinks and not much else.

I gave up the deep water for the morning and moved to shoreline drop offs that often produce. In one of the better areas I caught this keeper along with a couple pike and some dinks on the 1/8 oz Texas-rigged Power Worm from milfoil clumps that still had some life in them. Schools of bluegills were moving through the area on the surface too as I fished it. May have helped get me the bites?

I couldn't totally give up on the deep bass hot spot from the 17th so I went back there in the early afternoon and caught 1 more get me thinking bass out off the drop off a ways on the Bullet Craw again. I caught a few more dinks and some pike again but none of the toads and real quality bass from the other day.

But now I'm determined to figure them out better because I know they are out there somewhere!

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
