I use my 3.8 curado for carolina rigging.  The slower the better in that case.

I guess, im a power fisherman myself reaction, reaction reaction. There are time that u have to slow down and milk the area. (a crankbait on 3:8:1) you want him to read the brand?? in my crankbaiting i want it moving ripping through the weeds in his face, bam he hits it(cat mouse) element of surprise. thats my opinion. i have no idea where you could find one of those reels?ebay??-skeeterman-

Good luck.  I think 5:1 is slllllloooooowwwww!!!  The only reel I own with a 5:1 is on my crankbait rod.  All my others are 6.2:1 (curados and citicas).

But if you really want a slow reel... this is about all I could find.  :D

I use a 4.3.1 for cranking and a 5.1.1 for slow rolling a spinner.  Both are pflueger trion's they don't make the 4.3 any more so you have to find them on ebay, I had more luck on my crankbaits last year when I switched to that speed.

Yes, but only if it is Megabass, Lucky Craft, etc.  Big bass are like women...it's all about the name on the label :D

Well geez... if you're gonna through crack at em you'll have em "hooked" for sure.  Especially if the first one's free!!  LOL!!!!!

I use 4.4:1 when cranking.  I can get the lure down when cranking slow and if I reel fast, it is still fast enough to catch fish and not impede lure performance.  I would like to try a 3.8:1.

Something else giving them the muchies.  Crack would make em break into your boat and steal your S%^&!!!!

10-10 Bass Busters

that is true!  They are trying to steal the hooks to take to the scrap yards to get the crack money... ;)

It's funny what you guys on this forum can do with a typo.  Must be an extreme case of cabin fever................

Don't you know it!!!  I'm going crazy sitting here at home all winter... unemployed at the moment and bored to death!  I go HUNTING for typos to have fun with!

Back on topic for a second... you guys fishing these slow reels... don't you have problems WHEN (not if) a fish runs at the boat?  I crank with a 5:1 and have had a few fish run at me at about as fast as I can crank that reel!!!  Any slower retrieve and I bet I would have lost those fish due to a lot of slack in the line.

I haven't had any problems...but i guess i'm used to fishing slower reels..because up until about 4 years ago(when I started tournament fishing) i did all my bass fishing on 5'6" ultra light spinning tackle which has a real slow retrieve.  I have mostly 6.3  and I find when I fish spinner baits i reel to fast having them coming out of the water all the time.

I'm looking to get the BPS dave fritt cranking reel 4.7:1 for my cranking needs.I need something that can cast a "honking mile" as BPS put it. ;D

PS when does C&R season open for inland lakes? Some club had it posted for april 1st.It being april fools day that day i didn't believe the date.  ???

Durand Dan

Catch and release Bass the last Sat. in April. the 26th this year. Last year was the first time that all inland lakes were open to c & r at this time.

Hi, Eric, this is Eric,
I have a Pflueger Trion baitcaster with a 4.3:1 ratio.  Looks just about as slow as I've seen.  It's currently for sale by the way.  PM me if I can help you out!

Eric

REEL_MAN

If you have an old style Curado or Chronarch you can change the gearing to get the 3.8 your looking for. I've changed out sereral reels for guys like you that want the slower ratio. You have to be careful though, Depending on the age of the reel shimano changed the gear center distance and you will need to make sure the gears are correct and you can't mix mix the gears.
Myself I have all the same ratio for all my bait cast reels. I feel I have better control in adjusting the speed.
