Anyone have any experience with this unit??? I just bought a new Minn kota maxxum pro and it looks like it would be a bear to pull the motor off of the mount in case of failure...
I like the idea of the quick-release I just don't want it to "quick release" when I am motoring across LSC..  :o

congrats on the new TM.i my self just got a mk maxxum 80/us/52" and bought the quick release mount it in stalled easy,it feels pretty sturdy.but no maiden voyage yet.that would not be good to see that bounce off in the drink doin mach 9 on the lk.,thats the stuff nightmares are made of......

So you guys think that quick release makes the instalation of the new motor easier?  I myself just picked up a Maxxum 55lb 42" and will be mounting it as soon as it gets warm enough outside to work on it without gloves, boots, a parka, stocking cap, etc...  LOL!!!

OK, I was just looking at the releases on Bass Pro .com and there's no mention of a release for the simple Maxxum... only the Maxxum Pro

If guys fishing Erie go to the length of tying there trolling motor down, three times, between each run, do you really think a quick release is the best of ideas?  I could see for small waters that don't get much wave action, but big water????  I'll stick with bow mounting directly, and to save myself the hassle of replacing and removing rubber boots, I am putting a rubber gasket followed by a steel plate under my deck to mount it to this year.  No mistakes this time!!

Live to fish, Fish to live.

OK, I found on the Minn Kota site that the MKA-23 is the one for the standard Maxxum.  Funny it's not listed that way on Bass Pro

I will still Ram mount and Velcro strap it down....I drive like a slow old man when I am on big water....a few dollars in tourney winnings isn't worth busting up my boat.  Fishing the BFLs as a Co-angler this year I definetly saw both types of drivers..
The Maxxum pro takes a little bit of work to get the motor out of the mount so it would be nice to have a complete motor back up and about a 5 minute change in case of failure while pre-fishing or during a tournament.
Has anyone that has had a quick release had one fail????

A lot of times it doesn't matter how slow you drive on the big water.  I suggest mounting it directly to the boat.  Your Basscat already comes with a 1/4" aluminum plate beneath the TM with stainless bolts and nylock nuts.  Add the ram mount to the TM head and you will be all set.  Also if your rubber mounting grommets are worn out, replace them with the motor guide rubber mounts and cut the lower half that has the nut off.  This way the stainless bolts will pass through and can be through bolted.  (I think I have a spare set if you want them)

Do not count on the rubber mounts alone if you are fishing the great lakes!
