THIS AIN"T SPRING with ambient air temps of 36 degrees and wind chills of 27 degrees and below depending on how hard it is gusting.  I wanted to go fishing, it's just that the older I get I just don't like to be cold.  I didn't even enjoy going out this morning to get a newspaper and some gas in the truck.  The wind was blowing hard from the northeast and cold.  Frigid.  NO, THIS AIN"T SPRING!!!  That's for sure.  Old Man Winter just had to remind us just one more time that he will be back next December.  I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired of being cold!!!

I could have gone to the Lansing Show today.  Seen all the wonderful people from the board there.  I would rather see them on the water.  But at what gas prices are, I would rather save the money than drive to Lansing.  Use the money I would have used to go to Lansing and gas the boat and truck next weekend.

I remember in my younger days of going out to Cass Last Chance when the morning temps were 27 degrees with wind chills in the teens.  Fishing Halfmoon in October when it was so cold that the guides on your rod would ice up.............and we would just keep chunking and winding, chunking and winding.  Covering Water.  I remember Linda Bennett asking me once about throwing crankbaits in Hiland Lake during that tournament one year.  She said, "You  guys throw crankbaits on Hiland Lake?!?  It's so weedy there."  I told her that it worked because the fish don't see many of those up there and that natural colors worked best.  We got a lot of bites.  The tournament that year was won by a friend of mine up on Hiland and he was catching bigger fish throwing a jig and pig up on the shoreline and dragging it into the water.  It was a pretty consistant pattern and he had it down because he won two or three years in a row using that technique.  I think my partner and I came in one or two out of the money and the draw was 106 boats or maybe it was 109.  That tourney used to draw lots of boats from all over the area.  But that was in the fall.  It's supposed to be getting cold in the fall.  Not Spring.  In Spring it's supposed to be getting warm.

What's up Mother Nature????  Can't you control your husband Old Man Winter????

Well those are the kinds of things I have been thinking about since Old Man Winter is giving us a couple more days of grief.  I look to next weekend when the temperatures rise to springtime ranges and once again I can make my way out to the crystal waters of Our Great State.

NO SIR.....THIS AIN"T SPRING!!!!

I was complaining this morning about the snow and my wife started talking about how Hades still had Persephone and Demeter was crying and that caused the snow. As soon as Persephone leaves Hades and her mother Demeter is happy then summer will be here. Or something like that.  ::)

At least it is not bass season yet, since my motor is messed up. I tried it the other day on my home lake and there was no water pressure. I flushed it this morning, got all wet, and hooked it up to the muffs and still not pressure.  >:(

Reading Greek mythology is an excellent way to take your mind off Old Man Winter's last hurrah!!!  What the heck is Persephone still doing in Hades in April????  And you know darn well Demeter should be yelling down to her to get back ASAP.  Dinners getting cold.

I can't take much more of this global warming. I think they were right when I was a kid in the 60's when they predicted another iceage was comming. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
gotta go throw another log on the fire and have someone bring an old man a warm blanket so I can sit and stare at the fire and remember the good old days.
ya, thats the ticket, for sure.

Ps wife just told me to move the rocking chair over off the board that was creaking so loud. I told her it wasn't the floor but my knees.LOL

Got Fish??

Lord only knows how many times the weather has had a pattern like this we are only here for a short ride. With these temp's and the water warming up later, Once the water temp go's up. Fishing is going to be fast and out of control. All the fish will spawn in a short burst so hold on. I'm looking forward to one of the best spring bass seasons ever.   remember you herd it here first on GREATLAKESBASS.COM

Got Fish,
I think your right. There was evidence of spawning starting up on Kent Sat. Water was 52 and I saw some monsters shallow

10-10 Bass Busters

I hear ya..but remember 1 year ago yesterday we had a bad ice and snow storm!!!!  I remember this because my son was born in the middle of the night during this storm and they had to call all the surgical team in and they had a beeetch of time getting to the hospital...so I guess it could be worse we could be covered in snow and ice...but then again a day like this gives you that false since of hope it looks nice then you go outside and freeze the kester off!!!

It's ludicrous to believe that predictions like this would be true or false for that matter.  We could have cold front after cold front coming through and pulling fish off beds and back to staging areas.  The spawn could be quick or it could lag on through June like it has in previous years.  One thing I do know is that not all fish spawn at the same time.  I am going to fish each day one day at a time and to the conditions that are present for that particular day.  I will also adapt to conditions as they always change minute to minute, hour to hour, and day to day.  I have always done this and been increasing my success rate year to year.  I believe that the spawn will happen when the conditions are right and who is going to be able to say when that is.  Remember 90% of the fish are only in 10% of the lake.

Good luck to all anglers this year.  It is going to be different than it has in years.  I believe that the cycle of our lakes have now come full circle after having a winter that we haven't had in years.  For some, it will be good and for others it maybe poor.  That will depend on how versatile a fisherman you are on a day to day basis.

I wouldn't say this is going to be the best spring ever for fishing.  I would say that if you are prepared for changing conditions regardless you will have success.  It will be moonphase, coupled with water temperatures, and weather patterns.  No different than any other year.  It will depend on how versatile a fisherman you are.  It will be down to F+L+P=S for success.

So, given the opportunity, I'll go.
And if Big Dog is right, I better be out there fishing every day.  Every day learning more, catching more, straining more water.... Chuncking, cranking, casting, pitching, flipping, ..... yeah do it all, more and more, and more.
Sounds like a plan.

Just reread my post.  Maybe Dan's right Tom.  Probably is.

So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.
