Just got done watching the Knot Wars thing on North American Fishing Club.  It was kind of cool, but they seemed to have missed a couple of knots.  According to their tests the best knot for terminal tackle is the Palomar.  The tests say it's a 100% knot, which is consistent with my experiences.  I have never seen a Palomar break.  It's always the main line.

The best line they say for tying leader material to superline is a Uni to Uni.  Easy to tie.  But I have seen this knot fail with the suggested 5 wraps.  My only beef with the Uni to Uni so far is the size of the knot itself.

I wonder how the Modified Albright would stand up to the Uni to Uni and I wonder how the San Diego Jam knot would stand up to the Palomar?  Maybe we should have our own test.   :D

the last test i took i scored very, very high on.  Unfortunatly for me, it was a cholesterol test.  I am pressuring Hooters to come out with FAT FREE wings and sauce.

I like the idea of comparing knots, tho.  I have a friend who does this a lot in his pole barn.  I havn't actually seen him do it, but he claims to test every fishing line on the market with every knot.  I would like to check it out.

Rev, if you end up doing something like this let me know.  I would be interested in attending.

McCarter himself :-\'

P.S.  what is the san diego jam knot and where can i buy one?

Unfortunately I'm failing that test too.  Grr.

I was just thinking of hearing from guys who use these knots during practice and seeing what they all think.

The San Diego Jam Knot was something I heard about on Pro Team Journal a couple of years ago.  They were interviewing Jason Quinn and he said he ties the Jam Knot 70% of the time.  I hear it's a 95% strength knot, but it's easier to tie on bigger lures with lots of trebles than a Palomar.  Here's a link to it.

Kevin Vida was telling me he likes to use the San Diego Jam knot.

I use the uni knot exclusively, Ive used it since I was a kid and have never tied any other knot. I use it for mono, flourocarbon and braid. I find it fantastic for fireline when throwing my jerkbait. I do twist it at least 7 to 9 times. I can truthfully say that I cant remember ever having the knot giveway. Its so much easier and quicker than most of the other knots. Just my 2 cents.
When you are in any contest you should work as if there whereto the very last minute a chance to loose it.

Maybe even 3 cents...?? :o

Jimmy Houston taught me the knot I use.  I am not sure what it is called so I just named it the "Jimmy Houston 100% knot".  I call it that because a pull on the main line just cinches the knot down and tightens it up.  Just my 4 cents.

I've tied the dropper knot a few times to cut the loop for a quick dropper line, but I did not think that was the Jimmy Houston knot. I thought that was an old loop knot or something like a clinch or San Diego knot variation??

I don't know.  That's just what came up when I googled it.  Maybe I should email old Jimmy.  ;D
