Mile Road Update (Tuesday 4/15/08)
Hello Fisherman,
Ice thin this past Winter 4" thru March last year was 14" -- needless to say the perch fishing was less than stellar.
First Cormorants came thru last Sunday (too bad!!), flight of Forrester Terns cam by last night (also Killdeer and Blue Heron). Shad not around as well as smelt -- plenty of shiners though.
Water Temp now at 44 deg -- boats out last two weeks at 11 mile -- 4-6ft. and scoring big time -- moved to 10 -11 ft. Monday with bad weather. Total of 9 boats through last two weeks.
Water yesterday and today very stained with strong mud line.

Eagles hanging around at Peche, Ford Cove and 10 mile -- watched them eat dead fish over Winter.

Canvasback have moved on, had about 175 in backyard -- way down from previous years, large kill reported upriver.

New boat in garage, going out Thursday to do trial run and wet a few lines.

Wapole has been burning the grass this past week -- big smoke fires but usual stuff.

Theres a ton of wood floating around -- be careful -- seems to be bigger logs and more around than last year especially between 8 and 7 mile.

Water level is up about 8" over last year this time. Hope it will continue to rise. Middle channel Islands were very exposed in December -- more than usual.

Last item -- if you have not brought any of the new St Clair Crawfish tubes you are missing out -- first guy caught a ton of fish, used them all and reordered 200 more!!

Best to all you this year.
Mike Mc.

Now that is what I call a 'get your heartbeating' lake report - WAY TO GO!!!

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
