Saturday results

Wow! What a day.  David and I rocked all day long with (no lie) 60 fish total.  We counted em, so that's not an exaggeration.  Oh yeah, plus one big ugly.  Our best went 4.5, 4.25, 3.5, 3.5, 3 for 18.75 on a scale.  Pretty sweet day.  I got major "bass thumb".  It was fun to hang out for a Big Ed Burger afterwards with the fellas.  Sounds like we all did well.

I was on a killer Rock Bass pattern!

Eric and I started off this morning by pulling in behind Revtro and David to start our drift. 
Eric's first cast put him on fish.  (something that would be repeated throughout the day).
In the next five minutes, we boated six Bass.  I called Revtro on the cell to see if they were on fish, cause if not, we'd found the school.  Or so we thought.
Seemed like the action was hot and cold all day.  Mostly hot. 
We boated about about 30 fish between us.  But what was really amazing was the quality of the fish.  There were a bunch of 3.5 to 4.5 pounders.  I had one break off at the boat, that would have pushed 5.  We had a bunch that would come unbuttoned part way back to the boat.  It was the ole, fish races to the boat, while you try and take up the slack routine. 
Twice I had to excuse myself from talking on the phone, while I caught the smallie that was impatiently waiting for me on the other end of my line.
Many of the fish we were passing over were swiping at the baits, and not really taking them.  Some were just short strikes.  My theory was that they were guarding nests, and didn't really want to eat. 
What a day!  Everything was just perfect. 
We had one of, if not the best day, we'd ever had. 
The two hottest baits of the day for us were a Canadian Mist 5" tube on a 1/4 oz jig, and a blue/chrome lipless crank.  We caught em on other stuff too, but those where the hotties.
What a great day to be alive!

What a great day! I bet we had about 50 fish too. They seemed to like the 7 1/2' range earlier in the day and the hour they were really moving up on the beds. Just if bed fishing was that easy everywhere! It got to the point where it was "Hey, there's a dark spot", drop a tube in, watch the line move, and wham!
We caught fish on tubes, Nemesis sticks, gobies on the drop shot, a good many on an Aruku shad lipless, and about anything else.

well, wish we had as good a day.  I was on fish in Anchor bay all week.  Got up there, and picked up a few - nothing bigger than three.  My prtner had the rock bass thing going in the back of the boat.  Then the electrical problems plagued me again - boat would not start. 

Kudos to REVTRO and his partner for bringing my trailer up to the Sulfredge ramp.
MAny Many Kdos to BIll Rose at Rose marine for staying open past 4 to get my boat fixed and back on the water.   Turned out to be astarter selenoid - related to last years issues.

Off to Ky and the NBAA championship on the Ohio river.  Wish me luck!

I fished with Langer's dad, Darrel.  We had a great day on the water!

Our first stop of the day was an off shore rock pile.  This is a rocky area, in about 11 feet of water that tops out at about 8 feet.  Made one drift through, nothing.  Off we went to our next spot, south of 9 mile.  Another rocky area, about 7 feet deep.  The first fish was quickly in the boat on a 1/2 oz tube, but then the action was slow - so off we went after about 15 minutes.  We moved closer to shore, right near the nine mile tower and got into a little run of fish, I think I caught 4 or 6 or so in a row, and then the bite seemed to slow (10 min without a fish).  I moved again, right near the breakwall.  Picked up a couple more fish, but nothing of any good size. 

Decided to run back up to about 10.5 mile.  Quite a few boats in the area, all out in 7 - 9 feet.  That bite had been ok, but not fast and furious like I wanted.  I moved inside of all the other boats into 4 feet.  I worked my way shallower and hit pay dirt at 3.2 feet.  We had 8 or 10 doubles, and many consecutive fish.  Only 1 big one, most were in the 1 - 3 lb range.

At about 11:00, we moved futher north, in search of better quality.  Again, lots of boats out deep, so we pulled inside of them into 4 feet of water.  Clear water was also key.

Darrel then caught the biggest smallie of his life, and we caught 9 or 10 more big ones before the bite slowed.  At about 12:15 the shallow bite died completely and we moved out deeper, but never really got into them good again.  Loaded up at 1:30 and headed home.

Pre Spawn Lake Saint Clair, I have heard about this since before we moved to Michigan and Saturday was exactly as I had thought it would be.  We were on fish almost from the moment we started.  A great day.  Many thanks to Tom for a very special day on the water.

I was sorry to hear of your troubles on the water Saturday. But ya know, that's the kind of guys in this club.  My hats off to David, and Revtro for helping you get off the water the way they did. 
When a guy cuts a day's fishing like Saturday's fishing was, well, he's quite a guy!

Revtro, and David....  you guys win the sportsmanship of the year award.

As long as I kept Rick off the phone we put fish in the boat.  Being an LSC virgin...I can say I drove home satisfied...with that giddy little school girl grin on my face.  I guess tossing (losing) my hat to the liquid depths served as a worthy sacrifice.  Can't say that I've EVER had a day like that on any lake.  I look forward to many more days on LSC and more awesome smallie action.  The company before, during and after was well worth the trip.  Although, on the way home, I had to keep reminding Rick that "yeah I know...I was there too."  I guess we both had the giddy little grin on our faces.  Thanks to Rick and the rest of the guys...Great Times!

What a group a Smallie terrorists !! I hope ya'll got bass thumb !! The salt from the tubes must have felt really good on those thumbs after a while eh !! Quite a day when it actually bleeds and you have to use the other hand eh ??!!

Anyway, Sheri doesnt have to get her gall bladder removed, but has a hiatial hernia - but no tumors or bad cells in the area. Good news I guess. Thanks guys for all the good words. You guys are something.... I dont know what .. but your something !!!

That's great news about Sheri!  I'm glad they finally figured out what was up with her.  Hopefully now they can just get it taken care of.  Please give her our best.  Jill has been asking how she's doing.  Let us know when you're ready to go out for Mexican again!

Fishing:  I got out Friday since it looked to be the only decent day this week.  The bite was considerably slower, but we still managed to get about 20 or so.  The best action came simultaneously at the end of the day when we decided just for fun to go fish up near some docks that I haven't fished for years, just to try to catch a couple of largemouth.  First cast...Double Header.  2 giant Largemouth.  I'm talking 3+ which is bigger than the average Largemouth on Clair.  One was pushing 4.  Nice.
