This beast was cought out of Paw Paw on a nemesis 4" stick by Phil the Thrill AKA skeeterman Strakowski. The picture does not do this fish justice, Phil has unusually large hands with sausage like fingers so the bass is much bigger than it looks in the pic. ;)

Yeah... he should try holding it out away from his body... it will look bigger... the bass... not his sausage fingers.

Nah thats not all they catch, here are a few pics of the better fish cought on Paw Paw lake the last week. I fished with skeeterman on 6-28 and we cought about 20-25 2-4 pounders all on 4" and 5" nemesis stick baits, they seem to work as well as the yamamotos atleast on Paw Paw.

7-4 I fished Paw Paw with 1Javelin who cought a fat 5-9 under a dock that day, maybe he will post a pic.

On 7-6 I fished Paw Paw again with 1javelin and we cought 25 2-5 pounders on  many different baits, but the Nemesis 5" stick bait cought my biggest of the day a skinny 4-15 on the left of the pic. Our best 5 went 16-14 about an average day for Paw Paw. If any of you guys get a chance to fish Paw Paw I would recammend it the big bass bite has been on all year. McCarter you will be hearing from me soon, I need to make an order.

Never been fishing on Paw Paw, but some day, I'll get over there. Wanted to ever since those old time crankbait boys whacked a 9 plus in a giant limit... but that was ... gosh, that must have been over 20 years ago?!? :o Good to see the lake still produces good bass!

Paw Paw is still putting up consistant big fish, the action has not stopped since opening day. Its the middle of summer which is the toughest time of year on that lake and it took 18-6 to win in a 30+ boat MATS tournament this sat. Two 4 pound smallies were included in that bag as well brought in by justin hahaj. Big fish for the day was 6-11, and second was 5-4 cought by 1Jav to anchor our 2nd place bag. skeeterman was on track for the win with just under 16lbs with a 14 incher in his bag and dropped him to 4th. Says he missed a 5+ that flopped out the net and a 4.5 at the boat, tough beat dude we heard his scream half way accross the lake. Crazy thing is the fishing is going to get better and the bass bigger from here on out until it peeks in the fall. Get out there if you get a chance or consider it as a choice for the DK open.

Gee.  If this lake is that good, maybe we should consider it for the Fall DK open.
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

FISH HARD!!!

skeeterman190

Once again great job TCook and 1Jav one of these days ill get you boys out there. Yes PawPaw lake is a fish factory well @ least for some the weights really dropped off after 4th place but some very respectable bags for anywhere in SW Michigan. TONS of bags had 3-4lb big fish. Just everything else was 14-15inches. Those fish are so fat there they gourge themselves everyday i think. My day was frustrating to say the least. The thing that makes me the proudest of myself was my mental toughness I had on the water yesterday. Losing 2 monster fish when you have absolutely nothing in your livewell by 10 oclock is kinda a dagger in the heart. I knew my bite would pick up late in the morning and with it being a 6 hr tournament knew my time window was going to be limited. I think the first keep wasnt in the boat til like 10:15 and we fished til 12:30. And well the last 2 cull fish came @ 12:11 and 12:15 so whewww that was close. STIK BAITS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-skeeterman-

Always wanted to go to Paw Paw (I actually used to swim in the lake when I was a young 'un... something like 3 and a 1/2 decades ago. It's a loooooonnnnggg ride for a DK Open for a lot of members. It's on the list of possibles.

I think its not that long of a drive?? Im not sure where your based on where the general population of the site is though. Id say its maybe 2 hours from detroit. and maybe 2 hours from grand rapids maybe less for them if they take 196? it took me like 3 hrs and some change to get to mccarters house in NOVI area so thats kinda what im basing it on. the lake is about an hour from my house so??? Just putting my 2 cents in on it may be closer then white. or muskegon and much smaller body of water. but white works for me too! anyway im in for this DK OPEN WESTSIDE edition!!!!-skeeterman-

You're welcome.

Paw Paw Lake is about 112 miles from my house. Actually closer to me by 10 to 15 miles than some of the other lakes like White and Hardy. Might be a little closer for the anglers from SE Michigan. Farther for the anglers from the Saginaw Bay area. Seems like a remote deal being buried in the far SW corner of the state. I'm a little concerned about hearing how hard it might be for new anglers to get on fish? Maybe I'll try out later and then I'll know for next year - just trying to think of places I can get the most people to want to travel to.

I wonder one thing I've never understood - why is Paw Paw Lake not actually in, or even real close to Paw Paw?? ;D

Ya it might be a haul for some guys in the saginaw area but not much farther for everyone else. I dont think it would be tough for guys to catch alot of nice bass. A good amount of locals who are members would fish it and let everyone know what the deal is im sure. A group of us fish paw paw regularly and will even more in the fall so we would try to lead guys in the right direction. There is parking for 30 rigs and they would likley all be open that time of year, not to mention the insane boat traffic will be mostly done. Obviously I would like it to be on the list, but if not just try for next year.

Fished a 3hr evening tournament on paw paw tonight and big bass was 5-11 and second was 5lb. They have been comming deep and under docks, this lake is just fishing amazing right now. Not to mention the smallmouth population has grown considerably, when the water temp is right you can really smoke em if you get in the right areas. Years ago guys brought smallies from the st joe river and st clair, I did not get to fish there very much in the spring but many reports of smallies spawning in large numbers.

It will be considered by the 'official' site location committee next year. (Just don't let me... er, the committee, forget... still don't know why Paw Paw Lake is not in Paw Paw?? ;D )

Duke

Paw Paw is on FIRE!! Tourney last Sat took 18.6 to win! and teams with 14# didn't get money. 14.7 was 6th place and was the last check. I had 10.10 and finished around 20th - that's pretty good.
Duke

1javelin

We shoudl've hooked up Duke, I didn't even know who you were.  We were in the white and blue Javelin with the Johnson 200.  We took second, which was pretty good.  We just knew we needed one more bug bite but everyone pounded our spots by the time we got back to them.  Seems the directors were driving around GPS'ing some very important spots that other fisherman were whacking them on.  Not very good business in my opinion, but to each his own.  If they can do it to the Elite's on Kentucky, why not here.

Dan, Paw Paw Lake is Paw Paw Lake because of the Paw Paw River running to it, not because of location.
