The outing on Saturday couldn't have been scripted any better.  I had a great time and there were lots of fish (FINALLY) to be caught in the river system.  Right off the bat we got into good numbers of fish around Fawn.  The size wasn't what we had hoped, but at least we were catching them.

If there was one downside to my day on Saturday, it would be the number of fish that I couldn't get to the boat.  It was weird how many of the fish seemed to be short-striking and not hooking up well.  I lost more than I caught Saturday, but it was still a great time.

For the first part of the day I fished with Mojo and experienced no ill effects!   ;D  Mike, you were a fun partner.  We had a good time.  We enjoyed a nice lunch with everyone at Decker's, then I partnered up with Dane and Scott for the second half of the day.  I admit that I wasn't sure the bite would still be on after 2 or so, but was pleasantly surprised that the bite was still steady around Fawn, especially for Dane who boated the most fish in the hour or 2 that we were up there.  I had commented at one point that for a 15 year old, he had a really nice touch with the dropshot.  Great job Dane.

Just before heading back to the dock, Scott got his biggest fish of the day.  What a fun moment to see the excitement that huge smallie created.

All in all it was one of the most fun Saturdays I've had on the water in quite a while, thanks to a great group of guys!

Rob and Chris, sorry we missed you at lunch.  I don't know what happened there.  We made the announcement before we all headed off to launch, but you guys must have missed it.  I would have liked to get to know ya a bit better Chris... maybe next time.  Or perhaps we can get out there again and go fishing together.  I'd like that.

Looking forward to next time.  Now that the river is ON, I plan to get back out there this week.  Can't wait.

Here's Scott and Dane boating a nice one.  Good team effort getting her in the boat.

I had a great time as well. The morning was really slow for us and we picked up only a few fish here and there, nothing steady. After lunch we went to a spot and found them though. It was only a 1-200 yard drift but there were tons of fish piled in there. We stayed there for a long time and kept getting them. It was definitely a great day on the water.

you guys have the right idea.  I have done that the last 2 years.  fish mid week in the morning then to Deckers for lunch then fish the afternoon.  tried to find Browns this year but could not find it.  now i know where it is.    only thing missing would be a nap.

I think Chris and Rob were getting bites and didn't want to stop to eat...??

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

By the way DK, I saw you out there a couple of times Saturday (won't say where in case you were in a tourney)  ;D  Were you fishing an event of some kind?  I shoulda stopped by and said hi.  Did you see the worlds sweetest looking red BassCat drive by you that day?

Well, besides a dandy sunburn on the face and arms, my father and I had an awesome time out there. I want to thank Jack and Tom for having us on their boats, as well as the rest of the crew for letting us tag along.

In the morning we really moved around a lot, but also found lots of fish. Dad hooked up on the first pitch of the morning to a nice 14" smallie. Also picked up a few LM and pike along the way. Hopefully Jack will post that pike picture....

The afternoon slowed down although Tom did put us on a decent school a little downstream of (THE SECRET LOCATION). Dad ended the day with that nice one in the pic.

Thanks  again for having us along,

-Dane & Scott  :)
Bass Fishing... What can I say, I'm hooked!

For a while I couldn't get my motor started and we were waving and hollering at some guy in a blue Ranger with www.greatlakesbass.com on the side but he wouldn't stop or even wave! Geez!

Just kidding, about the not starting part anyway.  ;D Dan did give a wave when we ran by him a few minutes later.

Had a great time out there, we really got on them after lunch, I'll post pictures later. Thanks Chris for the ride out there and the spot on your boat, also thanks for the great gobies, all my fish for the day came on them, most productive was the KLB in both 3in and 4in! Can't wait to get back out there!

I also had a blast.  Got to check out my partners  new Triton.
Real nice boat.

We weren't finding fish, and then we got the call to head to Fawn.  We did, and that's where all of my fish came from.

Lunch was great, weather was great, fishing was pretty good, and the company was excellent.

I like the way we exchange ideas, equipment, jokes, etc.  This is exactly the kind of organization I was looking for.

So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

I wish we were on em strong to miss lunch lol. Chris just had to leave early. No biggie Chris it was great fishing with you thanks for teaching me some new tricks. We got into em hot and heavy right off the bat when we launched then we just started moving around and were doing good till the boat traffic started up arghh. Also thanks to Wayne and Dan(who were doing good I might say) for keeping their eyes open for us when those rollers from that tuna boat came flying by! All in all it was great for my first time fishing on the St Clair River for the smallies. Looks like I wont be able to get back out bass fishing again until either the MBI or our Detroit River trip in October. Hoping somebody will get the itch for a afternoon trip onto lake st clair in search for the hawgs of the fall if so drop me a line and i will be more than happy to work a half day and get out there and get my trophy smallie to take pics and put back to let get bigger for the next guy. But as they say the mail must go out rain sleet snow or shine. Plus gotta get my trophy muskie this year to.

What a great day it was.  The weather was perfect and the fishing was pretty good too.  For my first time on the river I would like to thank everybody for their help.  Rick, it was great meeting you and helping us get on fish in the morning.  Then to Mojo for showing me another place to drop the line and get a couple more.  I just hope that you guys didn't mind my poor boat control, I'm still learning....

Oh, and thanks to Nemesis for the the 4" gobies and to Xtreme Bass Tackle for the tubes that brought fish into the boat.  Can't wait for the next one.

yukonjack2

WEll, much has been covered already . WE had a good morning, and the fish were cooperating everywhere we stopped on our milkrun - albeit no bigguns.  Finally found one about 4 Lbs, hte big one for the day.   Until Big Ugly - a 36" good size pike.

Had a great time - boat is finally running well!

Sorry Tom. All bass anglers look alike to me... :o Wayne would sometimes say, "hey, there goes so and so" or "do you know those guys, they just waved...?" Upon, which I'd say, "all those bass guys look alike to me... wait, Mom?? No, just another bass angler...!!" ;D

I think I recognized a few guys passing by and waved. I was watching to make sure I didn't wave at someone who was waving for help though... can't cut into my limited time, you know... ;D

Especially when I'm out there picking Gobi Wayne Kenobi's brain in preparation for the upcoming TBF Northern Divisional. That's all we were doing. Some strategizing and some hypotheses-testing. (Similar to just trying a bunch of spots to see what happens... :D )

I will say I recognized Jack!!! Before I even looked up, I told Wayne... 'here comes Jack!' Wayne says, 'you can't even see him yet?!?' Yeah, but I know Jack when I HEAR him!!! ;D :D

We had a mixed day. Some big ones in a few spots. A big one here and there mixed in with lots of little ones. We caught a bunch of smaller keepers while we talked to Chris, sharing big tuna boat waves over our back decks :o

Hello, after not being out on the water or fishing at all this year it was what the Doctor ordered.I had a magnificent day,got a few big ones. Also got a few largemouth. My partner for the day was {Mark-Bass Cat}was a real pleasure to share the boat with, and he is extremely knowledgeable with all facets of his craft,I just can't say thank him enough. Also I would like to thank Tom{Revtro}and apologize to you for calling to much.I guess I'm old fashion. I still prefer talking on the phone since I'm a lousy typer and a really bad speller. It was good to see and say hello to everybody.

                               Thanks Bob Galloway

Don't be silly Bob.  It's always good to get a call from you!  Glad you could make it out.  Yes, Mark is the man.  That's what 30+ years of St. Clair experience will do for ya I guess.  We're fortunate to have him fishing with us.  I've learned a ton from him over the years.

I had the exact same thing happen!!!  I heard a boat runnin' WOT - out of sight around a bend in the river.  I told my wife, "Here come Jack"....sure enough he goes by hammer down.

One of these days He will figger out that the throttle is not an on/off switch and all of that extra movement between on and off actually does something....    ;D ;D ;D :o

Hi Guys & Gals,

It was nice to get together as a club and fish the river again even though the fishing was somewhat tougher than normal for this time of year. Thanks to Extreme and Nemesis baits for the tubes and gobies that just keep putting fish in the boat. Best colors seem to be an Extreme Canadian Mist dropshot tube and a Nemesis 3 or 4 inch goby in KLB or True Goby colors for me.

I also want to thank Bob for a great day on the water and was glad I could put him on some fish. You learned really quick how to put fish in the boat. I just wish you would have shared one of your Nemesis 4 inch KLB goby baits so I could catch a few big ones too. It did seem like that bait was catching the bigger fish and I'm just teasing you since you offered them to me several times. It was a pleasure fishing with you, we've got to do it again real soon.

I went to the river again on Tuesday with a friend of mine and went a little further up the river and managed to get into some real pigs even though the water was silted up from the NE winds. I think that they may have even bit better if the water was as clear as it was on Saturday. Visibility was only about 3 to 4 feet in most areas.

I don't think Jack drives it like he stole it, but he does drive it like he wishes he were there yesterday.

Good Luck to my friends fishing the BFL and Michigan Federation tournaments tomorrow!

Mark

PS. I've got my order in for some Nemesis 4 inch gobies in KLB, you should too!  ;D
