Just wanted to drop you a note from the UP.The smallies are all ganged up at the river mouths right now. Went out last weekend and caught 27 fish in 4 hours. Most were caught on Strike King Coffee Tubes and Gobie's, but we did get a couple to come up top and hit Sammys and Pointer 100's from Lucky Craft. We have a trip planned for opening weekend to go on Green Bay. I'll let you know how we do.

djkimmel

That is awesome!!! Pointers and Sammys in November in the far north, eh?

Thanks for news from up yonder. Green Bay is very fun although I only know a little about the south end and the Sturgeons. I would imagine there's many places to the north where the bass fishing is fantastic. I know I caught a few big ones around Eagle Bay... as far north as I believe I've made it.

Are you looking forward to the big tournament up there next season?

Dan

Where is the BASS Bay De Noc going out of? Are there any camping spots nearby?

B.A.S.S. is going out of the Escanaba Yacht Harbor, same as the FLW did. There are plenty of camping spots in the area. Gladstone has a city park, but most guys will probally stay at Pioneer Trail Park right across the road from where I Work. Hilltop RV Superstore. It's on the Escanaba river, has plenty of room for the guys with the big rigs, and us little guy's ! I really would have liked to fish behind someone, but now with the marshall plan, it's gonna be a ride along. It will still be interesting. I learned some new water when the FLW was here, So it all helps. The tournament that I look forward to is the spring NEW Tournament on Sturgeon bay and the Sturgeon Bay Open. Last year, it took a 5 fish 28.4 lb stringer of smallies to win the NEW ! It was awsome. 37, thats right, 37 5 lb fish  were weighed in. And thats at a 50 boat tourney !!

djkimmel

So two open tournaments in the spring now over at Sturgeon Bay?

Yea, they are the best spring tournaments around. It's just fun. But one day the wind will blow. And it will be tough.. The Sturgeon Bay Open has a website.: www. SBOBT.org. It's run real well, 1st is a new Z520 and 10 grand. Lots of big boys come up. They have a no entry fee pro am on friday, grand for big fish. I'll be up there all week.

djkimmel

Fished the SBOBT before. How many boats they drawing now?

That's what I figured. Is Wisconsin still doing that limit the tournament to certain parts of the bay deal? Just curious since I haven't checked in in a while.

Yes. You are not allowed to fish the west shore, South of Chauldlers Dock or north of gills rock. It's a big area. I'd still like to be able to run across.

djkimmel

Figured the pendulum hadn't swung back towards the middle yet. I guess it's better than when I started down my conservation path along with Chuck Rolfsmeyer, and Wisconsin was very loose with the bass...
