You could go the compressor/airbrush route, or you could buy rattle cans and some epoxy.  The brush thedude bought has gotten some good reviews from people who have bought them, and it is really inexpensive.  You could use any compressor (I use a pancake-style).  The bigger the tank the fewer times it will kick on.  Paints are all up to you.  Airbrush-specific paints are usually a couple bucks or so for a 2oz bottle.  Or you can buy acrylic art paints at any box store for .99 (you will have to thin them more though).

Great... now I'm going to have to start painting cranks too... The wife will love that. Not!

Thanks for the info.  I think in the long run, it will be worth it.  However, with another little one on the way, I may have to wait awhile.  Until then, anyone have a good bluegill pattern for a red eye shad?
